Hi Tom,
Doesn't the Radio Shack 274-375 stereo adapter at $4.50 do the same thing as
your circuit board? See

A couple of years ago I decided that I wanted new headphones, so I checked

communications use.
When I tried the new headphones, I found them comfortable to wear, but it soon

Hi Alan,
Please consider MFJ's 8100K regenerative receiver kit. It provides reasonable
shortwave performance, and its regeneration control can be adjusted for ssb
and cw reception. The radio's open layout makes it a good kit for beginners,
and the $80 price includes a nice case. The kit

FD is about how to put several transmitters in a 1000 foot circle
and making it all work. I've never been to a 22A, but I bet that is
interesting on HF.

How do they do that?

Instead of using an intial time delay, why not force the K3 to wait for a
high-to-
low transistion on the key line before it first transmits?

Hi Lyle,
Thank you for your explanation of how AFX works; I now better understand how
AFX currently behaves. While listening to cw, I find that increasing DELAY
shifts
the apparent source of a cw signal further to the left, which makes me believe
that AFX delays the right stereo channel.
I have recently begun experimenting with my K3's AFX feature. My understanding
is that AFX is supposed to spread cw signals across a virtual listening space
in
front of the operator (distributed according to pitch?). My experience,
listening
with stereo headphones and with AFX on, is that all
Hi Ken:
I tried to answer your last message about using the 5-V regulator to reduce the
fan speed, but your ISP's firewall (Barracuda Reputation?) repeatedly blocks my

Question for the List:
I recently bought an MFJ-4125 switching power supply to use with my K3/100
transceiver. While otherwise satisfactory, the MFJ-4125 has an objectionably-
noisy fan.
On my MFJ-4125, over half of the fan exhaust openings on the back of the
supply are blocked by the fan's
Question for the list:
On my K3 (SN 820) I have noticed that if I tune to frequencies between the ham
bands (e.g. WWV frequencies), these frequencies then show up when I step the
band switch up and down. Is there a way to delete this out-of-the-ham-band
clutter from the band switch's
of the MV button will do it - both these solutions are easier
than twisting the VFO knob until it is back in the ham band.

Hello George,
I had the same problem until I studied the right-hand photograph at the top of
page 37. It instructs you to remove an interfering screw (and put it back later
after
the front panel is mounted). When I did this, the front panel went to place
easily.,

Hi Dick,
You are absolutely right about quality, fit, and finish. I am building K3 SN

I currently am assembling my new K3 #820 and have reached the step where I

Hello Thomas,
I can use the allen wrench to extract the set screw from the VFO A knob. When I
hold the set screw against my 8-32 tap, the threads mesh, and the diameters
appear to be the same.
Even though the set screw thread meshes with that of my 8-32 tap, the set
screw is not long enough

I should have said I ran into a different problem with the VFO B knob . . .

K3 #820 (kit) arrived at my home in Alma, Michigan, today (May 1). I placed my

Now doing the parts inventory.

Hello David,
Chuck Penson's excellent book, HEATHKIT: A GUIDE TO THE AMATEUR RADIO
PRODUCTS, 2nd Ed., lists both the HR-1680 and the HX-1681. According to

Jim, N2EY, is correct; the 1967 is a typo on my part. Chuck Penson states that
the HR-1680 was released in the Fall of 1976.
