Dear Elecrafters,
Thanks for the thoughts, experiences, and info on using an SDR as a panadapter.
We're getting there now.

Dear Elecrafters,
Again, I am late to the party. Santa brought me a SDRPlay RSP1a SDR which I had
hoped to use as an IF panadapter for my K3/10. Unfortunately this isn't going
as well as I hoped. I don't seem to be able to get proper panadapter function
using the SDRUno software - it's perhaps
Dear Elecrafters,
After a long period of inactivity, I have been back on the air regularly with
my K3 (serial 7***). I operate CW and some FT8/FT4. It's a QRP one and has some
addons. When I bought the original kit, I had the idea of getting a P3, which
never happened at the time. Now they are
Dear Elecrafters,
Less than a month ago I asked a question about computer rig control, computer
logging and sound interfaces for soundcard modes. Thanks to the people who took
the time to reply and gave me helpful advice.
All is now connected in the EI5KI shack, I bought a refurbed Windows 10 l
Dear Elecrafters,
I am very late to the party. For various reasons I have been QRT for a few
years and I'm just now getting back on the air. I'm still using a paper log,
and QRP CW is my 'thing'.
My rig is a K3, serial no. in the 7000's. I have the KUSB cable, which I have
only used to update
Thanks to Don and Michael for their advice on the K1. It was indeed a simple
tweak of one of the caps on the filter board (pre-mix) and now all seems well
with my K1.

Dear Elecrafters,
I'd like some advice before I go delving into something and making it worse! I
have taken my 4 band K1 out of storage. It is set up for 40m, 30m, 20m and 15m.
It also has the auto ATU. On checking it out I find output as expected on 40m &
30m - 5W set gives 5W out on my dummy
I have a KX1 (40/30/20) with built in ATU. Someone is interested in buying it,
but I have no idea of how much it's worth. Can anyone give me an idea of how
much I could ask for it?

Dear Elecrafters,
I have a very small and odd shaped garden in which to play Ham Radio. I have
a K3 (and a K2 and... ), I run QRP CW and I was wondering if anyone had
experience of using active loop antennas as receiving antennas to lower the
noise floor. I was looking at Wellbrook's Website this
Thanks to the guys who pointed me in the direction of the K3 menu. I'd
wrongly assumed it was something at the computer end.

Dear Elecrafters,
K3 #7841 was completed this afternoon and made the first QSO this evening.
Currently a QRP K3, using an out board ATU - it probably will have an ATU
added some day.
The build was (naturally) very straightforward - it's a few years since my
last Elecraft kit, a K1.
One question,
Dear Elecrafters,
I've been using my K2 for a dozen years and I'm thinking I might go for a
K3. I have a question about RX filtering I'd like to get straight. Is the
widest bandwidth available to the receiver the width of the widest roofing
filter? I was wondering about getting the general coverag
After being QRT for a number of years I'm returning to the air with a new
call and location. I am seriously considering buying a KX3 (I have a K2 and
a K1), but I'm a little concerned by reports of AM breakthrough (or whatever
the right word is). I know this is because of the direct conversion

Mark,
have you set up the bands in firmware? The K1 doesn't simply "know" which
bands are which, you have to tell it. The procedure is described in "Band
Assignment" on p39 of the K1 manual.

I have nearly completed my new K1. Last time I had power into it (on receive
only) all four bands were receiving fine (7, 10, 14 & 21). I completed the
transmitter section this afternoon (I just had the two last transformers to
wind) and then went into the transmitter alignment procedure. All well
Thanks to Jim K4ZM I have found the culprit and rectified the apparent
problem (insufficient range of BFO frequency adjustment). I had put the
wrong value choke in at RFC1. I have replaced it with the correct value and
used Spectrogram to put the pass band just where I wanted it.
73 and thanks to
I now have taken the advice offered to use Spectrogram - why didn't I think
of that? D'oh!!!
I can now see the filter pass band and move the peak around using c20, but I
can't get the pass band centre anywhere near 700 Hz, perhaps only 450-500Hz.
This seems a bit low. Where should I look, or do I j
I'm building a K1 to go with my K2 and KX1! The receiver is working and
aligned, but I have a question about BFO alignment. I usually use a side
tone pitch of 700 Hz, but I don't seem to be able to adjust the BFO trimmer
c20 to get that high a note centred in the filter pass band. Am I aiming for

Since I read an article in "Hints and Kinks" (I think) on using a hook to
pull the wire through the toroid I've always used a crochet hook (that may
need translating into American) from my XYL's selection. You need to use a
metal one, the hook pulls off if you use a plastic one, but they are nicely
