All this is very interesting. It certainly demonstrates the need for the

Nah, fractions are better than metric-- more rational.

No way. Decimals are much easier to work with. Our frequencies are measured
in decimal and I sure wouldn't like to see my rig display it in fractions.

I'm sorry to hear that. After nearly 2 years the knobs on K3 #222 are still
fine. I assembled it myself so I tightened the screws only just enough to
hold them and no more. But with all
Knobs here are ok, as with Julian, I too built my K3 and was careful

About 2 or 3 months ago, my friend BD7IP met the same problem during

2 weeks it arrived for free. They kindly send me 6 or 8 knobs. Good

I think I remember a post not too long ago from the guys at Elecraft
that the composition of the material the knobs are made of had been
changed. My rig is SN3539, and so far, no exploding knobs. I'm positive
they'll take care of you.

One excellent long-term solution was proposed by James, K2QI. I have since
ordered my own set of nested aluminum knobs for the RF/AF controls and they
are far better in fit, finish, and usability than Elecraft's stock knob set.
But, they are also relatively expensive.
The knobs are machined

I may be biased (I designed the K3's knobs, switches, LCD, and

I like my K3, best rig ever owned by me since 40 years in hamradio.
I have #1029 and no problems so far with the original knobs. I use the
rig almost every day. Also the ambient temperature and humidity
variations are fairly variable here as well, if that means anything.
