[Elecraft] PR6-10 Tests

I imagine there are many who have the PR6 or PR6-10 for their K3. Recently I had to replace the PGA-103 in mine so took the time to measure NF and gain at 50-MHz. NF = 0.78 dB Gain = 21.15 dB Voltage at input leg=0.6v Voltage at output leg=2.5v 80ma at 13.5vdc That's pretty good with

Ed, You may have too many variables to determine what is causing the problem. Try a few things first to isolate where it is failing. First connect a BNC jumper between RX ANT OUT and RX ANT IN. Does the K3 hear a signal at the same strength with RX ANT set on as it does with it set off? It

Collin and the group; Here's a neat and simple solution that I discovered when I got my PR6: If you need to also power another Elecraft accessory such as a P3 you will need a way to plug the two phono (RCA) plugs into the single phono jack in the back of the K3 (accessory power outlet).

Ray, It fits neatly between the RX in and out BNCs on the back panel. You then select the separate receiver input via the RXant button of the front panel. I am away from the K3 at the moment but that is what I did successfully with an ANC noise reducer once. I too am thinking seriously about

Ray Stephen, And of course you will need the KXV3 or KXV3A board in your K3. Further, when you press the RX ANT button for 6, 10, and 12 meters it will be remembered so that you don't have to push it each time you use those bands. And lastly, the preamp is activated by a single wire connection

Ray, The short answer is no - you do not need a separate RX antenna, but it can also be used with an RX antenna if desired. If you do not already have it, you will need to install the KXV3 or KXV3A option. The instructions for connecting and using the preamp are in the Preamp manual. 73,

Question about the PR6-10. With no signal, and the preamp off, I get a gentle 'whsh' on 6, 10, 12M, 1 bar on the S meter. Turning on the PR, on 6M I get a slight increase in the 'whsh'. On 10M 12M the S meter goes to S7 or so and the noise level goes WAY up, sounds like 160M in a
