Dohn, It does sound as though your problem is caused by a failure of the switch which is part of the headphone jack. If the switch has failed and stays 'open' you could still get audio out of the headphone jack, but when removing the headphone plug the audio will not be switched through to the

This seems to be a common problem - but I have never experienced it myself. Unfortunately the form factor for that headphone jack seems to only have one manufacturer. One can say 'bad design decision' or 'faulty parts' or anything else, but that does not solve the problem - it would appear to me
