Thanks Leigh!! Your comments will result in some clarifications in future
editions of the manual.
Confession time: That cut trace in the manual photo was done by editing
the photograph digitally. Mine looks like yours, I'll bet, because I did it
exactly like the manual says. It wasn't clear on
I finished my 80m board for the KX1 today. I did it over 3 or 4 days a
bit at a time.
The first signal I heard on 80m was noted KX1 owner Bill K6ACJ, but I
don't think he was on his KX1. He signed before I had a chance to call him.
WA7OSQ Art in Pasco, WA (about 630 miles) was my first QSO,
I fired up the partially assembled K2 I purchased, and I get an info message

Says it is an EEPROM test #1 failed. Also the display is does not show all
segments, and the
Tuning knob has no effect. I did a complete reset with no effect. I am at

I'm thinking of giving the K2 a workout tonight in the Homebrew Sprint
contest. Has anyone done this contest before? What level of activity is
typical? Big multiplier for kit built rigs, so I invite my fellow
Elecrafters to join me ( to 0400 UTC).

Larry, Awesome looking meter. If I had not just taken delivery on a new
PowerMaster, I would be all over that.
Good luck with the product

Howdy folks,
I am planning to participate, havn't yet decided if it will be with the
Heathkit station, or the K2, or AT rigs, figure that it will be QRP, and it
will be a blast. Have been into this contest a couple times, had grand fun
in each. The bands are not perfect, but they are open,
Mike,
My recommendation is that you carefully examine the work done so far. Check
each solder connection and check each component for proper value and
placement in the correct holes. Trust that nothing is correct until you
have verified it.
If the display is not showing all segments, try
Where's the info on this contest?

Thanks Rich. My bad for not getting it to market sooner ;-) I showed it
at Dayton last year, but due to family demands and the addition of the
vector measurements, couldn't get to production until now. I also wanted
to time the release with the QEX article. The lead time on that was
longer
Hello,
I just got back home from the Atlanticon 2006 QRP Forum. Just would like to
thank the crew that helped with all the arrangements for making the past
weekend possible and very enjoyable.
I had a great time talking to old and new friends.

I was perhaps the first one to encounter this AGC Off problem and
ultimately changed X1 to solve the problem.
Nosey's comment below re the improved S-meter action caused me to try
something. I am currently realigning and tweaking K2 5044 that I built last

K2 #5266 is up and running and that would not have been possible without the
support from Elecraft - Scott and Gary are so responsive to questions and
helping me resolve problems I somehow managed to create. Don, W3FPR, and Tom,

Hi Joe,
The short answer is sometimes. The KXAT1 was not designed to go below
40 meters, but it will help on 80 meters with certain antenna lengths.
I know some KX1 owners
Thanks to the list for the comments and suggestions on K1 tuning range.
Good idea Ralph. If you can fine tune just a little more, you will find
even more CW up to 7123 or so. 7120 khz plus or minus BC QRM is SKCC
suggested freq. and quite a bit of activity up there. SKCC is a group of

All this talk about fixing the AGC has me thinking. I've researched all I
can but I still have a few questions:
1) Would my K2 (#4913) benefit from this mod? How can I tell if I need it?
2) The last poster talked about how easy it was to set up his S meter yet he
mentions doing it with the

ORIGINAL problem occurred when turning the AGC OFF, the AGC voltage to the S

Thank you group for the PL259 plug soldering lessons. There were many

One of the methods uses a torch idea. It turns out I have the correct torch

Tonight i was wearing the KX1 as a 'wrist-mitter'.
It was rubber banded to the underside of my left arm.
Worked pretty well and left me with a free hand (left),which used to be on my
cuff.
It was really windy and cold tonight but i made it out to the park by dark.

Good Evening,
We had two very good nets this evening. There was some QSB but the
bands were quiet and strong. There was a record set this evening two or
maybe a couple of them. First there were 38 total checkins. Eighteen of
them on 20 meters and twenty on 40 meters. There were only a
Thanks Ron...I had my suspicions about that trace.
The instructions are clear about the enamel lengths; it's just that one
of them really matters if you get it too long; the others don't seem to

I think calling out that L2-1 insulation is important would do the trick.
I just got a note from our very own awards manager, W2LJ. His K2 is

the number of serial numbers logged thus far on ECN. There are a total of
