Hmmm, interesting thread, this from a radio colleague who is also into 4x4,

Be careful what you wish for. A major advantage of higher voltage

Hi,
Clearly, a switch to 12 or 24VDC power distribution in homes is not going to
happen for all the reasons given by K9YC, Jim. Even in cars there is a move
to higher voltage, such as 36VDC. We are stuck with switchers for conversion
to the lower voltages required by many devices and they *can* be

The KPA500 is not in the chain. It needs its own connection to the PC. So your

OK, I've been digging around in the archives trying to answer this question

SO, what is the best set-up for running digital with the K2.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on a new HP desktop with integrated RealTec

I believe this PC connection is only for firmware updates for the KPA-500.
the "operational link" between the K3 and KPA-500 is via the ACC connector.

The K2 does quite well for digital modes, but yes, an audio interface

Actually, that interface does not have to be complex - a couple

I would suggest you investigate the possibility of an open AF return

Yes, there are other possibilities, but if it happened suddenly, then

I have made about 9,000 RTTY QSOs with my K2/100.
I use an MFJ -1275 interface. The audio output is fed from the MFJ-1275 into
the K2 microphone jack. I use an IBM clone running MS Windows XP with an iMic
attached to a serial DB-9 jack RS-232 port. The iMic replaces the sound card.

You're right, Don, as always. With my K2 I used a Signalink interface and
