I finally hooked up my computer keying circuit, 2N off the parallel port,
to my K2 before the CQWW contest. I have noticed what appears to be a
significant difference in the keying characteristic from the computer versus
the keying from the Bencher key. The computer appears to have a

When did he go SK?

Here in the Pacifc Northwest, we've also added a twist: we've been
running VHF SKN on the 50mhz and above bands, +10 up from the calling

Hi,
just been active in the arrl 10m contest and used scan on 28Mhz. Suddenly the
K2 changed band (to 24 and 14Mhz) in the middle of scan. And it continued to
scan on the other band...
Any idea?
It's been the first time I used the KIO2, but - this shouldn't matter, should

I know N6KR gets on the air. I heard folks talking with him. I am not
sure if he uses CW, however, since this was an SSB contact into GA. The
band was not open between CA and OR that day so I have no idea what N6KR
sounds like. I have tried to get him interested in ECN but to no avail.

Dan,
I am referring exactly to weight. Yes, the K2 has a weight adjustment but
it does not, or should not, know the difference between the Bencher key and
the keying from the computer running Writelog that is paralleled onto the

Gangue,
Thanks for all the feedback on this.
As I currently have no plans to use computer control with my K2 (with or
without the KPA100) I think Sverre's method below looks like my solution. In
other words this method is effectively (and very simply) providing an

Just to nail down the test case, you are keying via the key input (if
so, in straight key more or in auto-detect mode), or programmatically
through the serial port?

Another, or an again way of saying what has been said is:
You are assuming that the K2 sees the Bencher and computer keying as

The Knightlites Milliwatt 'test is coming up. Sounds like fun. Was checking out my K2 at

Pete,
Display problems like that are often caused by partially soldered
connections to the LCD.
The pins barely protrude through the circuit board holes and it is easy to
get the solder to fill the hole without heating the LCD pin adequately for
solder to properly adhere to the pin.
