Stan, Without a 'scope or Spectrum Analyzer connected to your KX1, I don't know haw to answer, but my best guess is that you have a 20 meter low pass filter that has a cutoff frequency that is lower than normal (spreading the LPF turns will help with that, while the LPF cutoff for 40 meters
