[Elecraft] KXV3A
Could someone please point me to schematics for the KXV3A or otherwise help with identification of a component? KXV3 schematics are bundled with those for the K3 but I have been unable to find any updated to KXV3A. My KXV3A has suffered a failure due to high level RF while on receive. The burnt out component appears to be D5, located between L1 L2. None of these components are shown in the KXV3 schematic. I am particularly interested to learn the part number of D5. Re: [Elecraft] KX3 headset recommendation
The Plantronics headset I tried performed poorly. What worked quite well for me was a Yamaha CM-500 and a Microsoft LifeChat LX-2000. I don't think you'll find any off-the-shelf headset with a compatible PTT switch. You can use the TX button on the front of the rig or VOX - both these headsets work well on VOX. 73/GL, Barry N1EU -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/KX3-headset-recommendation-tp7564383p7564393.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Many thanks Fred. I believed I had the most recent schematics but I was mistaken. I have now downloaded an update. I was guessing it was a 64-05. It's as well I asked. Re: [Elecraft] 2m Transverter
The XV144 works very well with the K3, Dave, and you don't need anything else, not even the KXV3A which is necessary for the internal K44XV transverter. The K3 with its stock 2.7 kHz filter is fine unless you wish to use FM in which case you would need the KFL3B-FM 13 kHz filter. I do not know how you would use CW via a repeater. We do not have CW repeaters here in the UK. I see there is someone currently selling a XV144 in the UK for 200ukp which is a very good price. 73 David In a recent message, Dave Buchanan kf5...@yahoo.com writes I was thinking about adding 2m capability to my K3. Hello Dave - What I omitted to say in my msg on the reflector was that you WILL need the KXV3 installed in your K3. When I mentioned not needing the KXV3A I was making an assumption that your K3 already has the original KXV3 installed. Apart from the power cable the only additional cables you will need are a pair of BNC-BNC cables to connect the XV144 to the K3. You can drive the K3 with just 1mW of power from the XV144. I have my K3 and my Dads old K2 sitting side by side and I always turn on the K2. Not sure why this is. Maybe it is the simplicity of the rig. I don't know but I just had to build another K2! Re: [Elecraft] KX3 using CW key as PTT switch for voice
You can use the tip contact of the ACC2 jack as a PTT input. Set MENU:ACC2 IO to LO=PTT. You can plug your key directly into the ACC2 jack if it has a 2.5-mm stereo plug. If not, you'll need an adapter like the one supplied as part of our KX3 accessory cable kit. 73, Wayne N6KR On Oct 20, 2012, at 7:10 PM, Josh Lehan wrote: I picked up a straight key at a flea market, and it works great for CW with the KX3. Thirty years ago a group of us tried to run CW practice on an unused local repeater, with the owners permission and the support of the local club, and that went over like a lead balloon. Not sure it would be any different now. 73, Scott, N9AA On 10/21/12 10:54 AM, Dave Buchanan wrote: Hi David, Thanks for the response. This is exactly the kind of information which is helpful. [Elecraft] Bugs? (KX3 AFSK A, and RXSBNL)
I am getting used to my new KX3 and have what look like bugs to me. Using the latest software 1.23/.99 AFSK A is supposed to be LSB (and actually indicates LSB on the screen) but when decoding the audio with a sound card based decoder I must invert the tones to get good decoding. FSK D audio is in the correct sense (not needing REV on the external decoder so I think I’m right). IN RXSBNL instructions In the optional enhancement section, for rx shift = 8 it indicates that FL1 will be flashing but then in the next section says Make sure FL3 is still selected shouldn't this be FL1 since we are offset? Under future enhancements, it would be GREAT if external FSK could be implemented, using the CW key input perhaps??? [Elecraft] K3 AGC settings w/ MCU 4.51
Hello All, I own a K3, am running MCU 4.51, and operate virtually 100% cw. With respect to MCU 4.51, I note that the software site says, AGC IMPROVEMENTS: AGC threshold (CONFIG:AGC THR) can now be set much higher, and the AGC has better (more monotonic) response curves. Greatly improves signal clarity in pile-ups and other high-noise or dense-signal situations, especially with threshold set to 12 or higher. NR and Auto-Notch can be used at all threshold settings. I set the AGC threshold up to 12 and find that stronger signals are too loud and strident, while weak signals are almost inaudible. I have the AGC decay on 'soft'; AGC hold on 0.00; AGC pls on 'nor'; AGC slp on 010, AGC F(ast) at 120. I'd like to survey K3 users (using MCU 4.51) WHO ARE SERIOUS CW CONTEST OPS WHO LIKE TO RUN, as to their preferred AGC settings (all of them, not just threshold). [Elecraft] P3 - Question
My P3 appears to have gone deaf. Feeding it with my service monitor at 8.215 MHz, it shows -100 dBm with 10 mv input. The baseline is at -140 dBm. This seems like a very high signal input for -100 dBm on the display, anyone know what it should be? I fed the IF output from my K3 into my FT-847, and it seems to be fine, the WWV second ticks go to S9. I've been trying out a new antenna and I seem to have quite a bit of RF in the shack from it. That's about the time that S9 signals disappeared on the P3. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2013 Cal QSO Party 5-6 Oct 2013 - www.cqp.org __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] K2: with KPA500, experience anyone?
Hello Andrew, I connect the KPA500 with K2 via a PTT RCA cable and a coaxial jumper. The internal frequency counter of KPA500 can detect the operating band and do the band switching. K2 will drive the KPA500 to some 250w (key down). Integration is straight forward as long as you have a keying device for the PTT in your K2. K2 delivers more power than KX3 under the same supply voltage of 13.8v as measured by my LP100A. Therefore, you will expect more power output from KPA500 if it is driven by K2 instead of KX3. Steve, the advice I got, a combination of list advice and internet reviews, is to go with the low self-discharge NiMH made in Japan, and the Sanyo Eneloop seem to have many followers, with the top of that line the Sanyo Eneloop XX batteries. Advice was to stay away from the Chinese products as too variable. I could not find XXs locally, and settled for the Batteries Plus Japanese NiMH batteries this week. No reference to discharge. I've been following the KX3 battery threads from a distance since the beginning and would like to offer my own suggestion. Hopefully I'm not duplicating previous info. I have several portable transceivers with AA battery cases. My current battery choice for most of them is the Sanyo 2700mAh AA. I have a couple dozen in daily use and have been very satisfied with them overall. In some radios they don't perform well but in most I've used they work very well. I've been purchasing them from http://www.batteriesamerica.com and charging/cycling them with a Powerex MH-C9000 charger/analyzer. Re: [Elecraft] K2 SSB audio problem
George, Ask yourself what has changed between good operation and now. Have you re-arranged your shack? The K2 is sensitive to devices with transformers positioned within 2 feet of the left side panel - the transformer's magnetic field modulates the K2 VFO. As a test, move your K2 away from everything else on the desk and run a test. If this proves to be your problem, you can install the optional mod kit, VCOSHLDKT. 73, Don W3FPR On 10/21/2012 10:48 PM, George Winship, NC5G wrote: After 11 years of operating and many unsolicited reports of great audio, I am suddenly getting not so good reports from my K2/100. [Elecraft] K2: Modulation on CW signal
Hello, First time posting to the list. Completed K2 #7239 today. Made a contact with a station on cw, 10 watts, 7.1065 mhz. He reported back that my CW signal had a very heavy ripple on the signal. I connected the output to a Oscilloscope and was able to see a ripple on the waveform when keying a solid carrier at a few watts. Also listened to my signal on another receiver and could hear a very bad modulated CW tone. This is a barebones K2 with no options installed at this point. Every measurement in the testing was all within specs and the alignment of the radio had no problems. Power output on all bands was OK. Thanks for any help in correcting this problem. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Advice was to stay away from the Chinese products as too variable. I could not find XXs locally, and settled for the Batteries Plus Japanese NiMH batteries this week. No reference to discharge. I may regret that. Will buy a set of the XXs when I can. Too early for reviews. In the past I have used a 7Ah SLA with the rig (works pretty well) but it is heavy. I want to switch out to 8 AA's this trip to see how it works out. What recommendations on NiMh AA cells do you all have that I can source locally? I have bought some batteries that have been decent and some that are terrible over the years, the best ones I found were at Radio Shack. What others have you had good luck with? I'd rather stay away from Walmart and other convenience stores. How about Batteries Plus? I haven't ever bought batteries from them before (cell type, my SLA came from there). My trip takes me along the Appalachian Trail and around Sugarland Mountain in TN/NC. I'll be sure to get some pictures. Re: [Elecraft] P3 - Question
It could be a lot of things, but I would first suspect the cables. The BNC cable from the K3 to the P3 is easy to check if you have another one to temporarily swap. There is also a small-diameter cable inside the P3 with TMP connectors on each end that connect the rear-panel preamp board to the front-panel board. You might try making sure the connector is well-seated on both ends. Press the connector in with a twisting motion. That's about the time that S9 signals disappeared on the P3. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2013 Cal QSO Party 5-6 Oct 2013 - www.cqp.org __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
