Hi,
prior to fitting the KXV3A transverter board to my K3 I had always had good tx
audio quality reports.
I fitted the KXV3A option 3 weeks ago and carried out the mW gain calibration.
I used the auto calibration in the K3 utility. It all went well.
Since I fitted the transverter module my
I have a PigRemote works great with K3 and KX3. $215. plus postage

Scott,
You mentioned doing the mW gain calibration, but said nothing about the
5 watt and 50 watt gain calibration.
I suggest you do all 3 TX Gain Calibrations - it is quick and easy using
K3 Utility.
I don;t know if that will correct your problem, but it has a good
possibility.
As a side
A problem just showed up with my 4 month old amp. If I send a string of
dashes at 30 Watts out of my K3, the KPA amp puts out around 120 Watts for the
first second or two then goes up to the expected output of 480 Watts. This is
on 20 meters to a Dummy load through my KAT500 tuner in
Mike,
Make certain it is the amp and not the K3.
Check the actual output from the K3 - disconnect the amp and drive the
dummy load through an external wattmeter. Don't change anything in the K3.
Does the power out follow the same pattern?
Try a band change (up and then back down) and then
I don't mean to hijack this thread, but wrt Don's comments, yesterday I noticed
that my K3 is behaving oddly after a tune cycle of the K3 internal ATU. On
SSB, in the CQWW contest, it was taking at least a half-dozen transmissions of
my call sign to get back to full power. I have the Power
I don't operate SSB much but am playing in the CQ WW test this weekend.
When clicking on spots last night on 40m above and below certain areas on
the band map there was a huge pop in my headphones. It was repeatable. When
tuning slowly through the same area I could not repeat the pop.
I'll have
Randy,
It is *always* slower during hot and heavy operating :-) .

I noticed recently that I lost the ability to use CW while in SSB mode which I
use sometimes to tune external amp w/o hitting all kinds of switches. I checked
the CW WGHT configuration menu and it shows CW+SSB. I have the latest
firmware update. Any ideas what I might have missed?
Thanks,
Hi Don and all,
Thanks for the ideas, but still having the problem. Don, I looked at
the K3 output on the analog meter on my old Waters dummy load and saw no
change from first dit onward (30 watts thru amp in standby). Band changes
don't seem to help although it sees on 40 it gets to
Bill,
Turn off QRQ mode - Config menu CW QRQ.
It should work.

Can be bypass mode be programmed into the KAT-500 on a segment basis?
I would only need the KAT-500 for the upper parts of the phone bands.
Rather than having to remember to turn off/on the KAT-500 when moving
up/down, I'd rather have it automatically remember. Ditto bypassing
itself
Bypass is a tuning solution that can be remembered by by frequency bin. Just
tune up at the bottom end of the band. The ATU tries bypassed as it's first
test, and if the SWR is good enough! it remembers to bypass at that frequency.
You can see the tuning solution on the Operate page of the
Does anyone have an XG1o r XG2 they would consider selling?
Please respond directly to me off reflector with the particulars.

Mike,
Its getting late for the contest now, but please run the Tx Gain Calibration
from the K3 Utility. Run it first at the 5 watt level and be sure that it
passes. Then move on to the 50 watt level.
If these both pass, back up your configuration and then test with the KPA500
again.
Cheers,
/*KPA500 fold back on power output with the first dit or dah then it
builds to what its set for.
Try changing the ALC THR settings in the menu of the AMP I changed some
per band settings which stopped this from happening.
Default is 210
Some of my bands i use 129
Check page 10 of the manual

I would also add that if you want 80m then I would buy and install the KXB3080
in place of the KXB30.
This part of the built gets my vote for the most tedious so you probably don't
want to uninstall a KXB30
and install a KXB3080 later ! It is also worth mentioning that you need to
I just received my second KX3 and it seems to have an issue. On LSB only
it sounds like its off frequency when it shows dead on where it should be.
Tuning up or down makes it over more so, if you listen closely it seems to
be on but garbled. Never had this happen on my first KX3 on LSB and on
Fred,
If it is off frequency, then moving the VFO one way or another should
bring the decoded signal so it sounds normal.
So I doubt it is really off frequency because you said it gets worse
either way you move the VFO.
I would suggest that you be certain the NR and NB are off and try
Since the CQWW contest is this weekend, let’s take a week off on the net. See
you next week.

Don answered your question about the SSB settings, but your setup is very
similar to mine (except I built the soundcard interface from scratch). I
am running Fedora and fldigi. You might want to try a very simple logging
program called 'xlog', it is basic but it works well, and interfaces with
Paul - I suggest you email Elecraft about this. They are good about replying.
It's possible there has been an update in the firmware. Also, there is an
update about what to do if there is low power output that is hard to find on
the Elecraft website. Here it is:
HI Art,
I have never used the ALC - at least it is turned off in K3 config and set
to default in KPA500 setup. Also it is not connected via the RCA socket on
the AMP. It usually is connected thru the 15 pin cables, but I removed them
as a trouble shooting step. I'll run the power
Howard,
There has been only one firmware update in the life of the KX1 - to
version 1.02. That added support for 80 meters (not needed for the
KXB30) and also added scanning.
If one has an older KX1 (with version 1.01 firmware), and orders the
KXB3080, the updated firmware is provided at
