One problem with just using the K2's CAT commands is that you can't get at
AF / RF gains, also tuning via CAT is a bit on the slow side. As I don't

As someone on the other end of things - maintaining a software program with
many users - I find a BBS to be far superior. It's much easier for me to
stay abreast of what's happening, it doesn't matter where I am: the BBS is
there for use with a database which gets backed up every night and

some cheap USB = serial adapters which will not handle a high data load.
This is a common problem.
You can also get PCI cards with 2 COM ports, myself I have a PCI card with
two serial ports and an external 4 port USB

One big advantage for me of the KX1's ATU is using it in winter when
it's -20C. Manual tuners tend to lose their appeal.
I don't have many trees up at 3,000 masl but do have a nice 12m Spider Beam
fibreglass pole and also there are many ski-lift masts just wait to be used
:-)

Elecraft, unfortunately I can't find any info on the 430 MHz transverter

I just wonder how many people will start to complain when my software shows

My experience is that the best carrier to use is UPS. Of those I have used
UPS has always performed flawlessly with international purchases (not -
Switzerland is not in the EU - so everything I buy goes through customs). If
the parcel is correctly marked I can rely on UPS for efficiency,
I have only heard good things about MixW. I would not like to program all
the modes they support, I don't think the grey cells could stand it.

Well the IC-7800 would drive 2m and 70cms transverters, later also a 1.2 GHz
transverter and a 2.4 GHz converter (RX only). As I have the IC-7800 which
is a great radio especially with the panoramic display I want to make more
use of it. When using a Linear transponder such as that on FO-29 or
I seem to remember that it weighed a ton or two - either it had a dirty
great big PSU built in or my mind is off on a jaunt of its own again. Looked
absolutely brilliant, drool factor was very high.
