The shrimp boats often used a 108" stainless steel CB whip on a spring, and a
large copper plate on the outside of the hull under water. They got out very
well on 11M. With modern rigs and built in tuners, you could probably do well
on 10, 12, 15 and 17 M too.

My KPA1500 RF deck is mounted on a high shelf, and the power supply is on low
shelf below the desk. I have the fan speed on the RF deck set to 2 as a
minimum. I almost never notice the PS fans, when I hear noise it is the RF

I have not been able to make it work either.
At the remote transmitter site, I can connect to the KPA1500 via USB or the
local LAN via TCP/IP. But in order to connect to the amp remotely, I have to
use Windows Remote Desktop connection to the PC at the remote site. That works,

I set the IP by using the facility in my router to assign a fixed IP to a MAC

I have not been able to access it remotely via the Ethernet interface by

Courtney,
The 12V RCA plug on the rear of the K3 accomplishes this just fine with the
KPA1500, so I think you should be able to do the same thing. Current demand is
very small. I am not using it to power anything else.

There are some 'constellation' networks planned with lots of small sats in LEO

I think you mean the KPA500 is coming on with the K3 but the KPA1500 is not.
You can run an RCA phono patch cable from the 12V out on the K3 to the REM jack
on the KPA1500 and it will turn on when the K3 does.

Has anyone tried communicating with their KPA1500 via the RJ45 Ethernet
interface? Que paso?

The HOA lobby is good - they got exactly the wording they wanted in this
bill and they got the ARRL to support it. It is not a compromise - it gives
the HOA complete discretion and control.
My HOA defined reasonable as follows: "A telescoping mast, 30 feet tall when

When the K3/0 is connected to the K3, the rP or Fp menu sets the condition
of the K3, not the K3/0.
When the K3/0 is not connected, the setting changes the K3/0.
But I have had much better luck with connecting directly to the mic input om
the RRC control, so try that if you can.

Many of the IP remote power switches (I use DLI) also have a backup control
available via a POTS telephone hardline, plus a ping function to do a reset.

I can connect the the K3 at the remote transmit site or via local LAN - only
difference is the "SIP CONTACT" address in "RADIO SETTINGS" on the RRC

Can you connect to the RRC radio unit via a browser interface from either

Mike,
I use both LOGic9 and N1MM+ successfully via the USB connection to the K3/0
mini, using USB at the PC end. Have used it with both K3 and K3S at the remote
site, and K3/0 and K3/0 mini at the control site. Make sure you have the latest
firmware in the RRC at the control end.

The elevated radials should help reduce near field I2R losses, but the sloping

directions, although at 80M it should slope for further than a mile away to
really make a difference. I do not think elevated radials will change

At my remote transmitter site, I have 10 mbps 'down' and 1.2 mbps 'up' and
everything works fine.
I expect that 1.2 mbps both directions would work, but have not actually
tried on a connection like that.

Can you use a browser to look at the radio RRC at the transmitter site?
Look at the status information before and after connecting and that may
suggest a cure. The radio status will show OFF even when you are connected
with the K3/0, at least it does on my setup.

The most amazing thing to me about the 15M CW pileup is there were dozens of
