When I got my KX3, I positioned it as outdoor use. The options I got at the
moment were KXFL3, KXAT3, KXBC3 and MH3.
When I got K3 as my main TRX, I repositioned the KX3 as both a back up TRX to
K3 inside shack and the outdoor use. So, I got KXPA100.
Later, I added KXPD3 for easy CW operation
I ordered the "kit" version when the first one's were offered (sn 475).
I got everything except paddle (not a CW operator) or the battery
charger (use either external battery or use it mobile/in shack).
I did get the 2m module as 144 is IF of my mw transverters (1w drive
level) where SSB is
in without having to bring
anything else along. And it's a nice backup as well.
YMWV :)

Wunder is right
I bought a used one last year and had to take what was inside. Fortunately it
was nearly everything except the 2 m option which I don’t miss.
Until now I didn’t use the internal battery option, instead I have an external
LiFePo battery. The clock is nice to have though.
The KXAT3 is great! I
Wunder is right. If KX3 gonna be your only rig and you like to contest or even
are considering it, you need the roofing filters.
The ATU is a must in my opinion, but, even though I have the internal
battery/charger, I’m not sure I would order that again.
The front mount paddles are nice but
I have the battery charger and the ATU. I use internal NiMH batteries for SOTA
activations, it is less stuff to pack and if 5 W isn’t enough, 15 W probably
won’t be enough either.
The ATU is amazing. Hang a 26 foot wire in a tree, lay some other wire on the
ground, press ATU TUNE and you are

I may have told this before but when the KX3 came out I suggested to my wife
that I would like one. She contacted my friend, Jeff, K9JP, and asked him to

Hey Glen,
Here's my take on KX3 options and such:
KXAT3 is absolutely worth it. It will tune *anything* and is super easy to
use. (Looking at you, Icom, where pushing the button turns the tuner on and
off and you have to hold it to run a tuning cycle.)
KXBC3 is okay. I use the NiMHs more like a
