Re: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing

2019-01-12 Thread Kevin F.
Thanks for the input I'm using the suggested iMic which does have a line
input and a mic input. I'm beginning to believe that it really is that the
radio is not working correctly. I'm going to reach out elecraft directly to
see what I can do without sending the radio to them for the fact that I'm
using it for my CWA class.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing

2019-01-12 Thread Thorpe, Jeffrey
iSDR does require a USB soundcard with a stereo mic input, like the Griffin.
The easiest way to check if you are utilizing the stereo mic function in iSDR
is to check your iPad screen while running it and see if you are getting 22 or
44 kHz. If it shows 22, you are only getting mono mic.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing

2019-01-11 Thread Don Wilhelm

Kevin,

You are unlikely to hear anything from the headphones from that jack.
Feed it into a soundcard and you should see something using a panadapter
application like HDSDR or NaP3.

The RX I/Q output is low level and broadband. It is not suitable for
digital mode software like FlDigi. For that software, use the Phones jack.

The jack is 3/32 inch or 2.5 mm.

Have you tried connecting the I/Q output to a computer and some SDR software
that actually uses I/Q input?

I don’t think you’ll hear much using phones. Scope should show the signal I
would think.

Be sure to push plug all the way into the hack. It is very stiff for the first
several times.

Thanks ALL for the help.

I'm still getting zero audio out of RX I/Q and want to make sure that I have
done my due diligence trying to figure out the issue. I'll have some
adapters on their way later today for the 1/16th inch jack to put headphones
on it that way I don't have to trust that my computer isn't dropping the
signal from RX I/Q someplace.

I'm looking at the hard step next, I haven't recently taken a backup of my
radio, a full reset of the entire radio and re-alignment. I'm going to read
about the steps before I commit to this however I'm not hearing the RX I/Q
and there seems to be something strange happening with the CW RX audio in
the 40 meter band that I'm also wondering if a re-alignment would clear up.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing

2019-01-06 Thread Don Wilhelm

Kevin,

The RX I/Q is at a low level, and is only usable for a panadapter like
the KX3. It works for those applications because the signals are 90
degrees out of phase (which is what quadrature means).

For Fldigi, and other soundcard data mode applications, use the Phones
output to feed the soundcard Line In.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing

The levels from the RX I/Q are very low, so you might not hear anything.

Pages 26 and 27 in the manual talk about using that for computer-based SDR
applications.

Also, check the RX I/Q menu setting. If that is OFF, you won’t get any output
from that jack.

Finally, fldigi does not use I/Q signals for its waterfall. It uses the regular
audio output from the PHONES jack.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 RX I/Q testing

2019-01-05 Thread Barry

Kevin,
The I/Q output is an analog two channel audio signal, but one of the
signals is 90 degrees delayed from the other, hence in quadrature. If
you plug the output of the I/Q port, one channel at a time into your
computer mic input, you will hear a wideband audio signal. There will
not be anything magic to hear.

FLDIG wants the receiver's filtered audio to drive it. It develops
what it needs from a mono audio input, either line or mic in.
