Hello group!
I would like to hear how some of you are handling the requirement to treat
LED's as a laser device, as required by amendment 11 of EN 60950.
The information I have received is that all LED's that are sources of
non-coherent light will be classed as class 1 lasers. The equipment
I would also be interested to know what everyone is doing (or not doing !!).
As far as I can gather, everyone is ignoring this issue, as it is just so
ridiculous.
After all, the only way you can prove that a LED is Class 1 or below is to
do
the measurements - and I'm sure most of us don't have
Can anybody tell me which (European)specification explicitly defines
the colour of insulation for wiring (internal and external).
Presumeably its going to be EN60XXX (can somebody fill in the X's for
me!!)
Obviously green/yellow for earth, but what is defined for

I intend to ignore that issue. Any LED I use is for power on or some other

Hi,
At a former employer (EU Notified Body based in Germany), we were told to
ignore normal LED's, unless when looking into them they looked
Dazzling. The rational was that the requirement was going to be changed
to exempt them and there was no sense in enforcing it.

This issue came in my attention in January 1998. ..I contacted some
manufacturers of LED (because I thought that they have the
responsibility to provide the classification), and unfortunately no
answers...
Within the catalogues no information regarding the Class of the ordinary

Good question. I have been hearing about this lately and have relied upon
the vendors to give me a heads up. Not all LEDs are involved and I am trying
to sort this out.
Shouldn't that read coherent rather than non-coherent. As was discussed
not to long ago the issue of laser light and focusing of
Can someone tell me of an EMC test house located in Milan, Italy or the

Group,
I am looking for a formula/rule of thumb, etc. for extrapolating the results
of radiated emissions testing on a partially filled cabinet-based product
(e.g. two out of four identical shelves populated) to determine (roughly)
what the entire populated cabinet may produce. I have heard and
