Has anyone looked at the SoftDMC for the m5i20 as an easy way to
experiment with an embedded motion controller? My casual reading of the
manual convinces me that it might do the job. It does lack arc moves
so one would have to pt to pt them.

Here's a small script that conveniently converts BRL-CAD databases
into gcode. The commandline looks like this:
./brlcad2gcode.sh brlcad_database.g brlcad_object_to_pick file.ngc
brlcad_object_to_pick should be a region or something like this in the
database
