Looks like a decent little lathe. Spindle speed is a bit low for that size lathe , my old Taiwan Samson 16x48 gap bed will do 2020 in high high. Bet you don't have any of the problems you have with the toy lathe. The chuck sounds like a D series chuck with is good. My Samson uses D1-6 I think
