Update:
Rather excitingly I put the steps into an efler script and re-ran the
install that way. On the same machine the apps now start fast again :)

Update on efler!
It now supports OS X as well - thanks to everyone working towards the
1.18.1 it made things a lot easier.
I'm going to work more on the gui so hopefully it won't rely on re-running
that bootstrap to stay up to date shortly :)

added to the list of supported OSs (Arch Linux and OS X currently) for
efler's bootstrap - would you be able to help?
