[e-users] Can't type accents in Enlightenment

2014-02-14 Thread Jesús J . Guerrero Botella
Hello.

I have been fighting with this for several days, tried to recompile
Enlightenment with every input method and toying around with them. But that
makes no difference.

My locale is es_ES@UTF-8, it's been that way since UTF-8 appeared into
scene, can't even remember when. The whole system supports it, both to
display and to write, in console, X, and wherever. So that's not it.

Only E-related software shows this behavior. For example, if I want to
write ratón in the everything launcher (which translates to Mouse),
then I am screwed, because it writes rat´on, and I don't get a match.
Besides that I imagine this will be a problem when trying to rename files
in the Enlightenment file manager (I haven't gotten to that yet, because I
am still dealing with some other issues).

I have trying set the regional config in Enlightenment to both system
defaul and spanish, the keyboard layout is also spanish. I have been
looking around and I am not sure what else to try. As said, the rest of the
system (both X and console) works just fine.

This is Gentoo so maybe there's something I need to enable when building.
But I have tried adding in support for scim, xim, ibus etc al (which were
previously disabled), and nothing changed. Not that those should relate,
but I had to try...

I am a bit lost now so any idea is welcome.

Thanks for reading :)

Have you changed any of the Settings/Language in e?

Assuming that your locale is set correctly in Gentoo and the
Settings/Language/Language Settings shows the correct Locale, then all should
work as intended.

Do you get this problem with other DEs?

My locales are ok. That's for sure. As said in the first post, it all just
work system wide, in console, X, bluefish, openoffice, qtcreator, eclipse,
nano... to name just a few.

I've been using es_ES.UTF-8 since the day utf landed in Gentoo. locale.gen
contains that and the english locale, though I rarely use that, because i
use the C locale for bug reports.

[e-users] E18 theme with Lua, how to get desktops names?

2014-02-14 Thread cedlemo
Hi,

I am trying to modify the default theme and also trying to see how lua
script works with the edc files.

I have already find the part related to the little preview of the
desktops (in edc/pager.edc with the group e/modules/pager/desk which
seems to be used in order to create a preview for each desktops and the
e.text.label is the part for the desktop name) and read the
documentation for lua scripting in edc files (and make some basic tests).

Is there a way to get the desktops names with lua.

Thanks.

[e-users] E 0.18.3: Wizard behind the curtain on Haswell 4600

2014-02-14 Thread Marjan Waldorp
E 0.18.3
Debian Jessie
GDM3

Hello,

I try to run E 0.18.3 under Debian Jessie.
However on a MSI notebook with an Intel 3550M/Haswell 4600 [8086:0406] GPU I
have a strange problem.

When I'm setting up a new user the Enlightenment Wizard starts, but is
invisible.
The GDM background and icon remain on the screen.
The cursor is shaded blue. (Hey, that's E, isn't it.)

Running an initialized Enlightenment is no problem at all.
It seems the E wizard isn't able to setup correctly the display.

Throwing a xterm on X before starting a session helps.
The second login attempt a get the Wizard.

  /etc/gdm3/PreSession/PS-bump-display
  -
  xterm -e /bin/sleep 1

Is this a known E bug?

[e-users] E 0.18.3: Struggling with dependencies on Debian

2014-02-14 Thread Marjan Waldorp

Hello,

I'm trying to compile E 0.18.3 the correct way on Debian Jessie,
but I'm struggling with the dependencies.
I read the requirement on enlightenment.org aswell the appropriate README files,
but I didn't find it quite trivial to translate the official dependencies
into Debian packages..

Especially setting up OpenGL the correct way is a problem.
Either OpenGL doesn't work or OpenGL crashes E right away.

Is OpenGL V2.0 required or is V1 sufficient?

On Debian Jessie I have:

libgl1-mesa-dev
libgles1-mesa-dev (embedded systems)
libgles2-mesa-dev (embedded systems)

Why don't we have libgl2-mesa-dev?

Any help?

Just ran into this same issue, with a new compile of efl 18.8.5, elementary
1.8.4, and enlightenment 1.8.3 on debian testing virtual machine. Did you
ever find any way to fix this issue?

strangely, xsession-errors has none of this, i could only find the ESTART

Enlightenment repeates this, while I kill it with 'pkill enlightenment'.

How to find the problem without correct error message? And how to mute
 these ESTART messages?

Another thing: with new efl and elementary, the .xsession-errors contains
a plus error message, after emotion init:

 ESTART: 0.03165 [0.2] - Emotion Init

So the e18 is unuseable for me, and I don't know why...

 rezso

Hi,

these are dependencies that I have found needed for E18 (+all the
needed EFL etc. libraries) to compile on debian Jessie:

  automake
  autopoint
  cdbs
  check
  cvs
  debhelper (= 7.0.50~)
  doxygen
  eject
  gettext
  libasound2-dev

Either OpenGL doesn't work or OpenGL crashes E right away.

Is OpenGL V2.0 required or is V1 sufficient?

 On Debian Jessie I have:

 libgl1-mesa-dev

 Why don't we have libgl2-mesa-dev?

 Any help?

Have you tried moving your e directory out of the way and then starting
enlightenment. I ran into similar issues with an earlier
version of e18 and this was the only way for me to fix it.

strangely, xsession-errors has none of this, i could only find the ESTART

So the e18 is unuseable for me, and I don't know why...

I try to either bottom post or inline to mailing lists. It's always been
the proper way to keep threads readable, and indeed it's still
demanded on most lists. If that's a faux pas here, please advise.

Anyway, Pavel, great dep list. I've tagged it for when I eventually
upgrade.

Marjan, if you're using fglrx, don't. Use the OSS radeon driver for
sure. fglrx has tons of issues in my experience, and that may just fix
it. Also, install 'apt-file' to help identify packages that a particular
file may be a part of. It's been priceless to me in the past.

you run:
'apt-file update' after you've run 'apt-get update' to update it's
index, then run 'apt-file search filename' to get a list of packages
that filename exists in.

I use Jessie and my hard drive crash so I'm reinstalling everything from
scratch.

I've compiled gl lots of times, but i use NV blobs. I do know that, for a

for using it)

I'll be working on this later tonight. I can provide a list of deps later

Re: [e-users] E 0.18.3: Struggling with dependencies on Debian

2014-02-14 Thread John Holland
I have a .dsc for EFL that works on Wheezy, but it pulls in a huge
amount of dependencies incl. LibreOffice and TeX. It needs a few
bullet related packages I recompiled for wheezy on my repo at
vin-dit.org but I think they might be in Jessie already.

It doesn't have versions for the dependencies but that doesn't seem to
be a problem.
