[EVDL] Vectrix bankruptcy auction June 18
I just received the following email on another list. Since it should be of interest to EV'ers (especially if they live in the Massachusetts area), I'm posting a copy of it here: The Vectrix Electric Motorcycle Shop in Bedford, MA is now in Chap. 7, liquidation. The case number is 14-11381-WCH. I’ve had a chance to see the different motorcycles; the VX-1 and VX-2 and the very cool VX-3 with its stable three-wheel configuration. Unfortunately, the company has shut down. We will be auctioning off the remaining assets on June 18, 2014, at the company headquarters in New Bedford. Paul A. I'd be interested to know if any intellectual property is available for sale. Could be very handy for someone who wants to make a small business keeping existing Vectrixes running to have access to drawings and other design documentation. I also wonder about their patents. If no one buys the rights to them, and the assignee is a company that is dissolved, does that render them effectively invalid? They hold a patent on a twist-grip throttle that goes two ways. The normal way for go, the opposite way to control the level of regen braking. It's so intuitively obvious I thought of it myself, then found Cedric Lynch thought of it long before me (AND long before Vectrix!). Yet Vectrix got a patent and excluded everyone from doing the obvious. Can anyone configure an electric motorcycle throttle like that now? Chris, If Cedric has published about the 2-way throttle or made it public knowledge before Vectrix' patent priority date, then their patent is null and void anyway. That is how patents work, they can only protect things that were not yet published, the so-called prior art. I do remember a website with a brief but clear description of it along with coverage of some of Cedric's other achievements. This was before the Vectrix patent. There was an EVDL member whose name I forget (member of the British Battery Vehicle society, had an electric Scirocco, it might have even been his website) who might be able to provide more details.
