Re: [EVDL] Momentary Pulse Switch

2021-10-05 Thread Phil Hochstetler via EV
That would be one option. Another option is for the magnet to hold the
reed switch closed when the door is closed.
Thus your application could turn on the screen if the signal is interrupted
and turn off the screen if the circuit is complete.
If you are running the signal to an input pin, you just need a current
limit resistor and two wires and a 5v source.

Good idea! The main impediment I can see would be the cost of licensing and

You mean when the magnet is mounted in a way that is passes by the
reed relay while opening/closing the fuel door, so that with the door
open and closed, the reed relay does not make contact, only while
opening/closing when the magnet passes by the relay?

[EVDL] "EV to ... home" ==> 2nd EV for 100% solar charging

Going off-grid:

Buy a used Leaf as a second EV. Charge each one on
alternating days. So you have a huge battery charging
everyday from solar, and you have an EV for goiong to work
AND you get THREE times the battery for the same cost
as a powerwall!. (and a spare car)

In Florida with Duke Energy we just got notified that starting Jan 1
2022 there will be a $30 minimum bill amount (in addition to the current
$11.45 connection fee).

I would prefer they raise the connection fee on everybody as opposed to
just charging solar people, part year residents, and people who use very
little power a minimum amount each month.

Actually, it's even worse than that. When I originally came up
with the $70 a month figure my wife wasn't working. Now she
volunteers at the 5 days a week. That uses about 10kwh
per day EV charging and, she has to charge mostly when the
sun isn't shining.

The new 'Solar Customer' pricing is $50 a month for grid
connection plus about $15 a month for taxes and other fees,
plus now instead of banking power for free, I get paid
wholesale for each kWh I push and charged retail for every
kwh I pull from the grid. The difference is about 8 cents per kwh.

So next year when this goes into effect I'll pay on average
$36 a month for banking power, plus the $65 mentioned above.
SO closer to $100 a month even though I'm net zero (well
surplus actually) on power.

I'm building a 10kwh solar charging station to offset most
EV charging costs and then, I'm going off-grid.

Agree. But V-2-H (home) is a great EV application. V2G requires
100% utility buy-in to PAY EV owners for their juice and the utility
greed just wont let that happen except under forced government
intervention. Dont waste our time.

The business model that does work is "someday" when the utility
will sign up to give us free daily charging in exchange to access
to our batteries for an hour or so during the late afternoon when
their peaking generators have to ramp up at ten times the cost
over just a few hours as the sun goes down.until base-load generation
can kick in (and/or we go to bed). - Bob

That sounds like a fail prone solution. If you get noise or somehow lose

the sensor once in a while ? Or have both: a pulse when the state
changes and a method to poll to confirm the state ?

Re: [EVDL] Momentary Pulse Switch

2021-10-05 Thread Peri Hartman via EV
That sounds like a fail prone solution. If you get noise or somehow lose
a pulse, you'll be out of synch. Wouldn't it be better to simply poll
the sensor once in a while ? Or have both: a pulse when the state
changes and a method to poll to confirm the state ?

Subject: [EVDL] Momentary Pulse Switch

Can someone recommend a small, momentary pulse switch for 5 volts? When the
car's fuel door is opened, I want a the switch to close to send a quick pulse,
then turn off. Same when the fuel door is closed. The switch doesn't have to
handle anything more than milliamps.

Thanks,

Bill Dennis

David, V2B is vehicle to building and V2x just is used for a generic reference
for all of them.

I know that V2G is vehicle to grid. V2H must be vehicle to house, yes?
Maybe V2B is vehicle to business (wild guess). But what is V2X?

[EVDL] Fwd: Re: V2H

2021-10-05 Thread Peter VanDerWal via EV
I agree that V2G would only be a selling point if your power company is going
to pay you a significant sum to make it available.

However, most of this thread has been discussing V2H, V2B and/or V2X rather
than V2G

As far as I know, the only EVs that currently support V2G are those with Chadmo
connections and then only if you have a EVSE that supports it.
Most, if not all, of the upcomig EV pickups will support non-gridtied V2X, and
several other EVs also will support it using onboard 120V/240V inverters.

Lots of other folks have even created DIY backup power by connecting 12V
inverters to an EVs 12V aux battery and then using the vehicles DC-DC to pull
power from the main pack.

Most(all?) HD/Lowes stores have a panel saw and will cut the plywood for you
for free. Just sayin'.
