Well, I just posted something about non-existent file attachments and every
list member who's running Antigen has sent me a message about my sending out
an infected virus (including someone at the Pentagon :-(). If there'd
actually been an attachment on the message then Trend wouldn't have
not a bad guess, since you did reproduce the
malformed MIME part from a Klez in your message. That's not something you'd find in an
average email.

Although a good friend works at Sybari, I still buy Trend for all Exchange
boxes. They still have the best AV research team out there, and regularly
beat most everyone else with definition updates. That, and in 4 years, I've
never had an outbreak because of a failure of ScanMail.

Subject: Antigen and Email Content Filter
Hi:
Since Sybari does not have a email filtering
We have a beta program:
* ELIMINATE SUSPECT EMAIL MESSAGES
Sybari Software released Antigen 6.5, antivirus, content- management, and
email security software for Microsoft Exchange Server. The software lets
you
eliminate suspect email messages and spam based on subject line, sender, or
domain
I like trend a lot, but if their content filter is anywhere close to the
best, there's a serious problem in the content filtering arena.

I've been using Lyris MailShield for a while with very few issues (one major
one after an upgrade about a year ago, but quickly resolved).
Interoperability has not been an issue. The worst thing about such products
is that in order to stop the most spam, you will inadvertently stop a lot of

I've just taken over running my companies system using Mailsweeper - it
seems to do everything - it bolts into some very powerful anti-virus
software and can filter on just about anything - predefined word lists,
phrases, boolean expressions, it will sort into multiple containers,
manage those

With the 2.0 version of the AVAPI they are more or less equivalent. MS now
has no prohibition against AV vendors using the Sybari method for AV
scanning of 5.5 servers, since they aren't planning to update the AVAPI
there. Times they are a changin.
