This is pathetic. The main problem/complaint with the original StarOffice was its size with all apps packed into one superapp. Very slow to start up initially but not so bad once started. Now, the whole big monolithic thing has been split into individual apps but it really is no faster start

I would DEFINITELY go with StarOffice. You cannot get the 6 beta anymore, unless you know someone with it. I just tried the latest Openoffice and, damn, it was buggy and slooow. DAMN slow. I ended up reinstalling StarOffice 5.2. It is faster and has more working features/few bugs.
