Ok, I'm not a very good listener :-)
I backed up my /var/lib/rpm and tried rpm --rebuilddb despite
the warning.
So far, I think it worked. I haven't noticed any problems yet.

I get the same message on a Mandrake 7.2 box. The rpm seems to install
correctly however . Well not entirely correctly,
I haven't been able to upgrade this machine to 7.2 yet due to
DiskDrake problems, so I am still running 7.1. Not sure I want to
upgrade given the problems that I am having at home with 7.2. CUPS is
awful!!
Somehow my rpm has been corrupted. Every time I install a package I

I am not able to install any RPMs!!! please help!!
Here is the output of some commands...

One word: Doh! =:)
*Maybe* I'll try to upgrade the RPM package to the cooker version...
Thanks all for the help.

I think that you might find the same problem with RH. I have pinstripe
installed on one of my machines, and it looks good. On another of my machines I
get configuration problems .. well, it IS beta. But they both use the new RPM
format. FWIW, Mandrake beta looks pretty good too, and I haven't
However, Abe, at the moment the vast majority of hardware configs still
don't get along too well with XFree 4.0. There in lies the problem.

That *would* be true if the spec file were run strictly as a script. I
Apparently XFree86-4.x still has bugs in it. When I first installed
Mandrake I tried this version of XFree, and found it to be more than a bit
strange so I installed and began using the older version. I think it's
3.3.x or something like that. At any rate the older version is stable and

OK after looking at this for 5 minutes it appears that Fred was
attempting to name a process??? I'm a bit lost here but obviously he is
compiling on a version of bash different to what comes with 7.1.

It's not a "mandrake config problem" it's an "I'm using the wrong version of
rpm problem." The 4.0.1 SRPMS were designed to work with *current* versions
of RPM (i.e. the version i

I have just reinstalled 7.1 from scratch and I get the same error ;(
RH is looking better all the time!

Well, this is a stupid and useless post perhaps, but I'm getting the same errors
as well. Haven't really looked into it, but what seems to cure my problems is
replacing "%configure" with "./configure" (of course, I loose the extra options
that are contained in the "%configure" call). So my wild gu

First, did you upgrade gcc? Perhaps to 2.1.3-16mdk? Compile
Hello.
I tryed to compile the XFree86 4.0.1 SRPM from cooker but as soon as the
"build" phase starts, I get the error: "FG: no job control".
This also happens with many other SRPMS. I never got such a problem with
previous MDK distros. I am now running a clean (and updated) MDK7.1...
