Construction of Maharishi Peace Palaces to Begin

Campus residents will soon see the start of construction of two
Maharishi Peace Palaces (one for men and one for ladies) on the west
side of Highway 1 south of the Gate Ridge Court office building.

Each Maharishi Peace Palace will be 12,000 square feet, built
according to principles of Maharishi Vedic Architecture and situated
on three acres of land, with celebration grounds in front of the
building. They will have a white marble exterior. The construction
will be done in phases over the next six months.

The Maharishi Peace Palaces will be a proper home for the pure
knowledge so generously given to us for the past 50 years by
Maharishi, said Alexandria DeVasier, director of the ladies'
Maharishi Peace Palace for Fairfield. We will offer over 50
programs, courses, services, and products in the new buildings.
These will include MAPI products, books, a day spa, residence course
 rooms, and more.

These Maharishi Peace Palaces are a profound gift from Maharishi
that will preserve the legacy of the knowledge of enlightenment and
perfect health for all generations to come, Ms. DeVasier
said. Establishing Maharishi Peace Palaces in Fairfield and
Maharishi Vedic City will bring a wave of coherence to change the
negative trends throughout the United States.

The Maharishi Peace Palaces will be financed through donations and
the sale of interest-bearing World Peace Bonds. To buy World Peace
 Bonds, please call (641) 472-1174.

This kind of sniping always fascinates me. It's
especially fascinating in the case of the Hindu-
Buddhist sniping. NO ONE could have been clearer
in life about rejecting the Hindu system than the
original Buddha. He also rejected to some extent
the notion of avatars. So what does Hinduism do
the minute the guy dies and is safely out of the
way, unable to contradict them in person? They
declare him an avatar of Vishnu, and claim that
he was really teaching a variant of Hinduism.

Orthodoxy is its own Hell. I think it's a suburb
of the Hell Of Self Importance.

It's also fascinating in terms of the theories
proposed by Lama Ole in a short rap posted here
recently. I mean, this quote is attributed to
*devas*, ferchissakes. So either the priests
are making this jealous sniping up and attrib-
uting it to deities, or the deities themselves
really *are* so insecure and stuck in the astral
plane that they really *are* jealous of some human
being who's getting more press than they are.

And isn't it *really* fascinating that the thing
that the priests who wrote this are most uptight
about is the claim that selling the Veda is just
a fraudulent means of livelihood for a few?
Sound familiar? Maybe the TMers who have lost
faith in the TMO for similar reasons are really
unrighteous men contaminating the Vedic path,
and the righteous are better off without them.

Then again, maybe the unrighteous are waking up
from a bad dream in which their own holy men were
demanding money all the time, as the only approp-
riate method of proving their faith, and the
money-grubbers would prefer that the flock stays
safely -- and profitably -- asleep.

That rap of the Devas goes on for a couple of
sentences, then sez Shiva:
Taking a human body, I shall secure what is good
for you. I shall establish the Dharma, conquering
all the leaders of the perverse paths. I shall produce
a commentary on the Brahma Sutras, setting forth the
true teachings of the Vedas. I shall do this, taking
the form of a great Sannyasin, S[h]ankara by name,
accompanied by four disciples who would be like the
luminous sun dispelling the darkness of ignorance
conjured up by the acceptance of duality. Just like
Mahavishnu [Buddha?], I shall embody myself on earth.
All of you, Devas residing in Swarga, should also
take birth on earth like Myself and assist Me in My
mission. Thus shall your prayer be fulfilled.

I hope they keep the piles of money separate;

[FairfieldLife] The Argument Clinic (was Re: Dangers of Pseudo-Advaita)

2005-10-06 Thread TurquoiseB
Could you provide some of the links to get-rich-quick
schemes that you found?

No because you just want to start an argument.

And life's too short for that.

 Is not.

A reception desk in a sort of office building.

Receptionist: Yes, sir?

Man: I'd like to have an argument please.

Receptionist: Certainly, sir, have you been here before...?

Man: No, this is my first time.

Receptionist: I see. Do you want to have the full argument, or were
you thinking of taking a course?

Man: Well, what would be the cost?

Receptionist: Yes, it's one pound for a five-minute argument, but
only eight pounds for a course of ten.

Man: Well, I think it's probably best of I start with the one and
see how it goes from there. OK?

Receptionist: Fine. I'll see who's free at the moment... Mr. Du-
Bakey's free, but he's a little bit concilliatory... Yes, try Mr.
Barnard -- Room 12.

Man: Thank you.

[...] The man knocks on the door.

Mr Vibrating:(from within) Come in.

The man enters the room. Mr Vibrating is sitting at a desk.

Man: Is this the right room for an argument?

Mr Vibrating: I've told you once.

Man: No you haven't.

Mr Vibrating: Yes I have.

Man: When?

Mr Vibrating: Just now!

Man: No you didn't.

Mr Vibrating: Yes I did!

Man: Didn't.

Mr Vibrating: Did.

Man: Didn't.

Mr Vibrating: I'm telling you I did!

Man: You did not!

Mr Vibrating: I'm sorry, is this a five minute argument, or the full
half-hour?

Man: Oh, just a five minute one.

Mr Vibrating: Fine. (makes a note of it; the man sits down) Thank
you. Anyway I did.

Man: You most certainly did not.

Mr Vibrating: Now, let's get one thing quite clear... I most
definitely told you!

Man: You did not.

Mr Vibrating: Yes I did.

Man: You did not.

Mr Vibrating: Yes I did.

Man: Didn't.

Mr Vibrating: Yes I did.

Man: Didn't.

Mr Vibrating: Yes I did!!

Man: Look this isn't an argument.

Mr Vibrating: Yes it is.

Man: No it isn't, it's just contradiction.

Mr Vibrating: No it isn't.

Man: Yes it is.

Mr Vibrating: It is not.

Man: It is. You just contradicted me.

Mr Vibrating: No I didn't.

Man: Ooh, you did!

Mr Vibrating: No, no, no, no, no.

Man: You did, just then.

Mr Vibrating: No, nonsense!

Man: Oh, look this is futile.

Mr Vibrating: No it isn't.

Man: I came here for a good argument.

Mr Vibrating: No you didn't, you came here for an argument.

Man: Well, an argument's not the same as contradiction.

Mr Vibrating: It can be.

Man: No it can't. An argument is a connected series of statements
intended to establish a definite proposition.

Mr Vibrating: No it isn't.

Man: Yes it is. It isn't just contradiction.

Mr Vibrating: Look, if I argue with you, I must take up a contrary
position.

Man: But it isn't just saying No it isn't.

Mr Vibrating: Yes it is.

Man: No it isn't, an argument is an intellectual process...
contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other
person says.

Mr Vibrating: No it isn't.

Man: Yes it is.

Mr Vibrating: Not at all.

Man: Now look!

Mr Vibrating:(pressing the bell on his desk) Thank you, good morning.

Man: What?

Mr Vibrating: That's it. Good morning.

Man: But I was just getting interested.

Mr Vibrating: Sorry the five minutes is up.

Man: That was never five minutes just now!

Mr Vibrating: I'm afraid it was.

Man: No it wasn't.

Mr Vibrating: I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to argue any more.

Man: What!?

Mr Vibrating: If you want me to go on arguing, you'll have to pay
for another five minutes.

Man: But that was never five minutes just now... oh come on!
(Vibrating looks round as though man was not there) This is
ridiculous.

Mr Vibrating: I'm very sorry, but I told you I'm not allowed to
argue unless you've paid.

Man: Oh. All right. (pays) There you are.

Mr Vibrating: Thank you.

Man: Well?

Mr Vibrating: Well what?

Man: That was never five minutes just now.

Mr Vibrating: I told you I'm not allowed to argue unless you've paid.

Man: I've just paid.

Mr Vibrating: No you didn't.

Man: I did! I did! I did!

Mr Vibrating: No you didn't.

Man: Look I don't want to argue about that.

Mr Vibrating: Well I'm very sorry but you didn't pay.

Man: Aha! Well if I didn't pay, why are you arguing... got you!

Mr Vibrating: No you haven't.

Man: Yes I have... if you're arguing I must have paid.

Mr Vibrating: Not necessarily. I could be arguing in my spare time.

Man: I've had enough of this.

Mr Vibrating: No you haven't.

[FairfieldLife] Vasishta on Pseudo-Jnani's...Was Pseudo-Advaita

2005-10-06 Thread hanumanhoffman9
Hari Om Tat Sat

From Yoga Vasishta, VI.2:20,21

O Rama, one should strive to be a jnani (man of wisdom or direct experience)
and not a
jnanabandhu, a pseudo-jnani.
Who is a pseudo-jnani?
He who studies the scripture for pleasure or profit like a sculptor studying
art, and who
does not live up to the teaching, is a pseudo-jnani. His scriptural knowledge
is not
reflected in his daily life. He is more interested in applying scriptural
knowledge to
promote his physical welfare and sensual happiness.
Hence, I regard an ignorant man as superior to the pseudo-jnani.
Jnana or wisdom is self-knowledge; other forms of knowledge are but its pale
reflections.

[FairfieldLife] On Buddha and other Avataras of Lord Vishnu

2005-10-06 Thread hanumanhoffman9
Vishnu Incarnations

(Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji's speech on 3-9-96)
Compiled and translated by Sri H.V.Prasad

The incarnations of Vishnu are countless. Ten of them are popular. But 21 are
very special.
In each of these, Vishnu Tattva has spread. Krishna Avatara was the greatest. .
Imagine
two small boys playing on the beach. One of them builds a sand castle. The
other too
builds a rival castle. They build as if they are emperors. They take happiness
from that
activity. Seeing them, the parents feel very happy. The father calls them and
asks them to
go home. Then these boys destroy what they have built. This also they do
happily. They do
that so that other boys cannot derive pleasure from their labor. What they have
done, they
finish it. The boy who had built a rival castle was planning to take over the
other's castle
after his leaving. He is disheartened that the castle was destroyed by its
creator. He is
disheartened as if his labors were wasted. Who was right and who was wrong? Is
the first
boy who built and destroyed so that the other boy could not enjoy his castle,
right? Or the
other boy who was planning to take over the first boy's castle and was
disheartened when
the first boy destroyed his castle before his departure? Give me your answer
tommorow.
There are three characters here. Who is the third? Is it God? No. It is the
father, who
encouraged his son to build a sand castle and enjoyed his son's labors. Of the
21
incarnations, some are important. The same God is in me and makes me speak. The
same
God is in you all and makes you hear my words. I speak because you hear and you
hear
because I speak. You are here out of Love for Swamiji. And Swamiji is here
because you all
have Love for him. The same God has brought us together. In this case, God is
the first
boy, I am the second and you all are the third boy.

The first incarnation took place at the beginning of Krita Yuga. That is at the
Sandhi Kaala.
The begining of a day is very important. The intellect is in a special
condition then( from
4.30 to 6 AM). The second important time is when the sun is at the top, i.e.,
noon. In the
evening the sunset time is also important. Our body is a temple and requires
special
treatment. Special treatment does not mean special food. To keep the body in
good shape
and to keep the mind sharp, sadhana is necessary. At these three periods of
time, God
enters our body. We must be silent and comtemplative at least during those
times. At least
for five minutes. Many complain that Swamji does not come in their dreams. To
them I say,
'I tried but you were very busy and not prepared to accept my presence'. We
must think of
Him so that he comes to us. We must thank him frequently saying Because of you
I exist. I
thank you for keeping me alive till now.

In the Yuga Antara time Manvantara was giving Arghya in a river and when he
took a
palmful of water in his hand, he found a fish in his hand. It requested him to
care for it. He
took the fish to his home and as the fish grew day by day, he could not care
for it. He
asked why he was growing and why he had come to him? The fish said that in
seven days,
a water pralaya (total destruction) would occur. Take a boat. Saptarshis will
come. Take
samples of all living things. I will come and lead you out of this pralaya. A
demon will steal
the Vedas and hide them in the sea. I will come and protect the Vedas.

A demon stole the Vedas. Then Hayagreeva came and rescued the Vedas. God came
in the
form of a fish and sustained the creation. This is Matsya Avataara. The Pralaya
occured to
weed out the wicked and evil souls.

Next is Kurma Avatara. The incarnation as a tortoise. God came and got Amrita
for the
Devatas. The demons were deprived of it. God did it in a very wise manner.
Feelings are
important. Scold somebody in a foul temper. He will be hurt. But smilingly
correcting
someone will be taken in a light manner. If wisdom and gentleness are there, it
is not
enough. The Rakshashas [demons] had strength. So to take Amrita out of the
ocean, He
needed the help of the demons [for strength]. Then the Devatas went and
surrendered to
the demons. The demons became happy. The Angels served the demons. Right from
Indra,
all the angels served. It is said that to get work done, one has to pray evento
a donkey if
necessary. After some time passed, the angels submitted a plan to the demons.
If we
together, churn the milky ocean, Amrita will come out and by consuming it, we
all can
become immortal. They accepted. Mandara mountain was brought and placed in the
ocean. Since there was no support for the mountain to float, it sank. Then the
Devatas
prayed to Vishnu to help them. He took a special incarnation as Kurma, i.e. the
tortoise.

When the Lord supported in the form of a tortoise, the mountain floated.
Vasuki, the
celestial snake became the churning rope. The mountain became

Any one seen the Oct 5, 2005 press conference?

It's now official: the Prime Minister of the Global Country of World

of answering any question as well as handling any task.

The back log at www.mou.org is currently two weeks, so those who
missed it might have to wait until Oct 20th to feel the waves of bliss
of hearing the news.

What's that voice I hear? Is it Peter Klutz saying 'told you so' ..?

One one of the website, I found an e-mail
   address to send questions
for the weekly news conferences and expressed my
   concern on a number
of issues in the form of questions. Of course he
   wasn't going to
publicly ask Hagelin or Bevan about their
   licentious behavior in
public or in private. Especially as it seems to
   be Hagelin who chooses
 what gets asked.

What licentious behavior and why do you care?

Why would I care? Hmm, let's see...perhaps because
   of the unbelievable
pompousness of HE the Honorable Dr. Morris when he
   arrogantly enforces
policy that he creates while he seems to feel he is
   immune from the
basics of respectful behavior as in please leave the
   wives of others
alone and stop calling ladies into your office and
   propositioning them.

While it is certainly boorish behavior and I do not
support it in the least, the ladies can say no.

Part of my point. Another is that we're not talking about MMY's
purported affairs with worshipful secretaries, but more mundane (at
least in MY mind) affairs between more or less co-equal people.
Unless Bevan is hitting on HIS secretaries, or Hagelin is hitting on
his students, their behavior shows normal human weakness.

Mind you, I've been burned badly enough by other people's boorish
behavior that I've stayed out of the dating game for over 10 years.
There are few women I trust, and even fewer men. On the other hand,
I'm not completely innocent of boorish behavior myself.

He who is without sin, grab that rock, and all that.

Construction of Maharishi Peace Palaces to Begin

Campus residents will soon see the start of
  construction of two
Maharishi Peace Palaces (one for men and one for
  ladies) on the west
side of Highway 1 south of the Gate Ridge Court
  office building.

Each Maharishi Peace Palace will be 12,000 square
  feet, built
according to principles of Maharishi Vedic
  Architecture and situated
on three acres of land, with celebration grounds
  in front of the
building. They will have a white marble exterior.
  The construction
will be done in phases over the next six months.

The Maharishi Peace Palaces will be a proper home
  for the pure
knowledge so generously given to us for the past
  50 years by
Maharishi, said Alexandria DeVasier, director of
  the ladies'
Maharishi Peace Palace for Fairfield. We will
  offer over 50
programs, courses, services, and products in the
  new buildings.
These will include MAPI products, books, a day
  spa, residence course
   rooms, and more.

These Maharishi Peace Palaces are a profound
  gift from Maharishi
that will preserve the legacy of the knowledge of
  enlightenment and
perfect health for all generations to come, Ms.
  DeVasier
said. Establishing Maharishi Peace Palaces in
  Fairfield and
Maharishi Vedic City will bring a wave of
  coherence to change the
negative trends throughout the United States.

The Maharishi Peace Palaces will be financed
  through donations and
the sale of interest-bearing World Peace Bonds. To
  buy World Peace
   Bonds, please call (641) 472-1174.

[FairfieldLife] Lynch at Brown U

2005-10-06 Thread bbrigante
It made for a, well, Lynchian scene when David Lynch, the force
behind such dark works as Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, touted the
power of transcendental meditation (TM) to a packed Brown University
audience on Sunday, October 2, clad in a rumpled black-and-white suit-
and-tie ensemble while three associates, including John Hagelin, a
Harvard-trained quantum physicist, were turned out in understated
beige. The auteur, who recently created the David Lynch Foundation for
Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace
(www.davidlynchfoundation.org), faced a few tough questions —
including one about the merits of ontologically privileging
transcendentalism over other states of consciousness — but mostly
charmed the crowd with his humor, Midwestern twang, and enthusiasm for
TM.

[FairfieldLife] Bush claimed God told him to invade Iraq, Afghanistan: BBC

2005-10-06 Thread gullible fool

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20051006/ts_alt_afp/mideastbritainusiraq_051006214432

LONDON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush
allegedly said God told him to invade Iraq and
Afghanistan, a new BBC documentary will reveal,
according to details.

Bush made the claim when he met Palestinian leader
Mahmud Abbas and then foreign minister Nabil Shaath in
June 2003, the ministers told the documentary series
to be broadcast in Britain later this month.

The US leader also told them he had been ordered by
God to create a Palestinian state, the ministers said.

Shaath, now the Palestinian information minister,
said: President Bush said to all of us: 'I'm driven
with a mission from God.

'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those
terrorists in Afghanistan'.'

And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go
and end the tyranny in Iraq...' And I did.

'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go
get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis
their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And
by God I'm gonna do it', said Shaath.

Abbas, who was also at the meeting in the Egyptian
resort of Sharm al-Sheikh, recalled how the president
told him: I have a moral and religious obligation.

So I will get you a Palestinian state.

A BBC spokesman said the content of the programme had
been put to the White House but it had refused to
comment on a private conversation.

The three-part series, Elusive Peace: Israel and
the Arabs, charts the attempts to bring peace to the
Middle East, from former US president Bill
Clinton's peace talks in 1999-2000 to Israel's
withdrawal from the Gaza strip.

The programme speaks to presidents and prime
ministers, their generals and ministers, about what
happened behind closed doors as the peace talks failed
and the intifada grew.

The series is due to be screened in Britain on October
10, 17 and 24.

  Well, that's what MMY said.

MMY - forever stretching one's concept of what enlightenment is.

Indeed. The definition gains more weight every day.

Well, as my Aunt used to tell me when I was bored:

Boredom is the sign of an undeveloped mind.

i enjoyed the take on boredom by Trugpa Rinpoche.
the Zen tradition also has some interesting views.

boredom can be considered as the reaction of the
  (so-called) mind to unfulfilled expectations.

wearing away of boredom by long periods of sitting
  is certainly not effortless TM.

IMO,i notice that people who have completed a few sesshin
have a calmness and degree of patience missing in long-term
  TMers.

That being said, there are some things that are just plain boring.

'The best thing for being sad,' replied Merlin,
beginning to puff and blow, 'is to learn something.
That is the only thing that never fails. You may
grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may
lie awake at night listening to the disorder of
your veins, you may miss your only love, you may
see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics,
or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser
minds. There is only one thing for it then--to learn.
Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is
the only thing which the mind can never exhaust,
never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear
or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning
is the thing for you. Look at what a lot of things
there are to learn--pure science, the only purity
there is. You can learn astronomy in a lifetime,
natural history in three, literature in six. And
then, after you have exhausted a million lifetimes
in biology and medicine and theocriticism and
geography and history and economics, why then you
can start to make a cartwheel out of the appropriate
wood or spend fifty years learning to being to
learn to beat your adversary at fencing. After
that you can start again on mathematics until it
is time to learn to plough.'
