David Lynch has made a career out of producing weird films that people think are profound. I find his films to be mildly psychotic and extremely tamasic for the most part. He is a disturbed man and his films reflect his schizoid personality disorder. The fact that the TMO has latched its public legitimacy to this weird dude is quite sad. What I get is that he isn't afraid to explore the dark side of his own (and everyone else's) being onscreen. That may not be everyone's cuppa tea, but there's nothing inherently wrong with it. My favorite Lynch story has to do with his offices in L.A. He owns a classic duplex, with a carport between the two halves of the building. Naturally, each of the buildings is an exact mirror image of the other. Well, he owns both halves, right, so he got to play with this. His offices are in one half of the building, with some living quarters in the other half. And the interiors of both are exact mirror images of each other. The same furniture, and even the same paintings, but facing right-to-left on one half, and facing left- to-right on the other half, that sorta thing. It may not be for everyone, but I think that's really funny. It had such a strong tamasic effect on both of us, we stopped the tape and watched the rest the following day at noon. That's the only way I could watch it. Someone here had linked to a video of a demo tour Lynch, Hagelin and Fred Travis were doing at various college campuses. It was humorous, but also bizarre. You couldn't help but notice Lynch seemed like a Frankenstein character, and when they began wiring this TMer with an EEG you fully expected Lynch to beseech Egor/Hagelin to go to the roof and adjust the lightning rod for the approaching storms. The only thing missing was the screaming female. Lynch also mentioned, in recalling his own benefits with TM, how at one time he had a real hard time being around other people and that TM had made that more manageable. It seemed to hint at some underlying pathology that is somewhat obvious already in both his speech and his mannerisms. Anyways, one hopes he is healing on some level. Have you read his stated reasons for supporting TM? I find his films to be mildly psychotic and extremely tamasic for the most part. He is a disturbed man and his films reflect his schizoid personality disorder. The fact that the TMO has latched its public legitimacy to this weird dude is quite sad. I'm sure that Bevan and most of the TMO has not viewed any of his films. The resoultion to this conundrum might lie in the fact that during one of these Wednesday press conferences, Bevan Morris made it clear that the movement does not view Mr Lynch as its representative, but the representative of art in general and hollywood in particular - i.e. that his current efforts is a reflection of how CC has and is changing. This is known as spinning. The fact remains that the current PR hero of the mov't would not be allowed to screen any of his movies (except the straight story) on campus, The Elephant Man and Dune would probably pass muster as well. which enforces a strict G-rated movie code based on MMY's talk in India in 1980 about the dangers of watching anything tamasic on film. To add to the weirdness, an award will be given to hippie minstrel god Donovan - MMY having made clear his view on hippies many times.
