Precisely! Just to take one problem: opioid addition. If there were sufficient Dome numbers, then they failed to offset the thousands of deaths. But if there weren't enough Dome numbers, then it's the fault of the MUM Administrators for not getting the Domes filled. In either case, a dismal failure. There are a host of other seemingly intractable problems, such as the nutcase in N. Korea and (if you live in a large City, the hordes of homeless people on the streets, every 30 yards or so by walking. L.A. has its own mini-City of the homeless.

Well, Utopia turned out to be pretty damned good. I did see the two most important aspects of the ending coming, but all in all it was a superlative effort. NOT, as originally stated, for the wussy, or for those who can't handle the truth. The basic fiendish plot revealed in episode 5 is sadly not original to the writers, because when I lived in Santa Fe several scientists up at the National Labs at Los Alamos went public and blew the whistle on similar projects they were being asked to work on, but race-specific, targeting only certain genomes. --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, turquoiseb no_reply@... wrote: I just wanted to thank you again for recommending this series. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Utopia
Nope, the fiendish plot is not original at all but daring given the corporate overlords we have nowadays. Such ideas have been attributed to the Illuminati, HG Welles also wrote about similar ideas, Bertrand Russell talked about it and of course the Club of Rome which we discussed in my SCI class and a controversial book in the 1960s about such ideas. Hopefully, the series will make its way to Netflix and other streaming services soon rather than some lame Hollywood producer wanting to create a dumbed down version for the US. In Moneyworld it's all about money and everyone seems to be desperate for it these days. I'll have to watch another episode of Cult which started out a little weak like too many cooks spoiling the soup. Second act was a little better but I'm beginning to wonder if they spent less on these series we might get better shows. Because when there is a lot of investment on the line then there are too many overlords messing with a series. Sinister released yesterday in the US on DVD and BD. I used up my last free Rebox credit on the DVD. I was not as impressed as apparently a lot of critics and audiences were. I thought the the pace was a little lacking and got tired of so many dark scenes that didn't need to be and gaffs such as an super 8mm projector (that was probably only 8mm) with sound (none of those looked like that). Like I said Thai filmmakers are better at this kind of genre. The director needed to watch more of their films. Finished up House of Cards the other night and can we say the plot sickens. They'll probably remake it instead, starring American actors not smart enough to *read* a comic book, much less understand that one might hold the secrets to a worldwide conspiracy. Episode 5 was quite something and I'm looking forward to the season or series finale. Given what's behind the conspiracy it would be hard to dig up usual suspect sponsors in the US for the show. Perhaps it is best like a number of other Channel 4 shows for it to be available streaming (no commercials). The show definitely has its commercial breaks built in but one of the funny things about Syfy's playing of the Canadian series Continuum is they often go right over those then break at what I would call a bad place. Thing is that in the US all the channels even the cable ones want their breaks at the same time so that no matter where you tune you get a commercial. This started years ago according to a friend who worked for a TV station. Apparently Canada has commercial different time slots than US TV. Anyhoo, Utopia is scheduled to release on DVD and BD so we'll see if they release discs for the US too. But they're probably looking for a hot deal with Syfy or some network to create a very dumbed down version. Gotta say though that the Syfy version of Being Human is very good and Showtime's version of Shameless is also very good. Both of those have the original showrunners and probably writers involved which makes a difference. There is some incredible writing with both versions of Being Human. Tonight Zero Hour debuts at a bad time slot on ABC. Bad because at 8 PM it will already have to be watered down. And two, it is at the time slot which failed for the ill-fated series Last Resort which was a bit bold for US TV. It deals with a conspiracy and stars Anthony Edwards from ER. Conspiracies seem to be a hot seller in the US but apparently make TV execs and lawyers nervous. We still haven't seen all of Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theories season 3 episodes and TruTV decided they wouldn't show the episode on the TSA. I would think Alex Jone's crowd would love Utopia but then claim it is total NWO because they are showing you want they are going to do. That's why his show is so crazy and fun to listen to ('cept for the Jayzuss stuff).

The Guardian have a blog that recaps all the plot points so far: http://www.guardian.co.uk/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2013/feb/12/utopia-episode-five I read it to refresh my memory before the next week. They are a good bunch of characters, but I feel a bit sorry for Arby now, which isn't something I would have expected at the start! Jessica is delightfully weird too. I would have missed the whole thing if it wasn't for someone I know who saw a trailer and thought it worth a try. I gave up on Channel 4 ages ago because of their sudden love of freak shows and endless cooking programmes. Shall take their drama a bit more seriously now though. Talking of which, the same guy recommends a show called Black Mirror also from Channel 4 and written by Charlie Brooker, possibly the world's darkest and most sceptical TV critic. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Utopia
Channel 4 actually has a YouTube Channel and Utopia Episodes are available. So are episodes of Shameless. For Americans unless you go to the trouble of setting up a proxy that will make you look to YouTube like you are in the UK, the episodes won't play. I think there are already extras on the Channel 4 site. I haven't tried playing those but they also have episodes which of course get blocked. I mentioned Shameless since the UK version has been available for some time via DVD on Netflix and now WI. So I suspect Utopia will be available that way too. How soon I don't know. I'm figuring the commentary though would say we had Stephen Rea for one day so we shot everything he does in the series that day. So I would be surprised if you ever see him outside that room. And of course of most of America to understand a Liverpool accent when they even have trouble with high British would also keep it out of the mainstream (it's the baytols). Of course the US is beginning to look like episodes of Utopia or worse. On 02/13/2013 02:22 AM, turquoiseb wrote: I just wanted to thank you again for recommending this series. I would suspect that IQs of people on FFL are a little on the high side. TM would have been something attract (or maybe trap) folks of high IQs. Sometimes TM seemed to be a way to distract people who might have gone on to be the shakers and movers of the latter 20th century. Dear Share Long, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO4LyKd-Hws As her mentor, and someone who will understand why *we heart Emily*, the committee of FFL NEMO's would like you to speak with Emily on our behalf. As you know, the NEMO's are group of nobody's who seem to stick together for no other reason then to irritate hyper-cool posters who can really type fast. We use mantras, hate koans, and believe you're enlightened if you say you are. We laugh a lot about stuff that isn't that funny, and exaggerate our sense of irony (which isn't hard in a place like this). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSrUFKp1qVQ As I'm sure you're aware, Emily's posts yesterday had a certain quality of: The Long Goodbye; don't get me wrong, I've personally experienced much longer goodbyes, when the 4th ex's lawyer got done with me I realized the 4th had been saying goodbye since the day we met, fifteen years previously; but back to Emily (sorry, NEMO's tend to digress), so before we hear those black swan wings of Emily's hitting the surface of the lake as she soars away from FFL *in search of a meaningful existence*, the committee of FFL NEMO's would like you to inform Emily, that we have decided that she is exhibiting all the symptoms of someone about to *POP* into UNITY, and if this is true, since she does not use a mantra, its obvious this onset of UNITY was brought on by the group DHARSHAN of the posters of FFL; we figure all that's needed to stabilize Emily's UNITY is for her to declare her enlightenment before she takes flight; if nothing else her declaration will help us rationalize why so many of us are not leaving with her. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5XrjdjtSAs And lastly, Share Long, could you please inform Emily, on behalf of the NEMO's, that comedy is just tragedy on a controlled substance (without prejudice-smiley face). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98XqT4kBWT4 From: Emily Reyn emilymae.r...@yahoo.com To: FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2013 10:27:43 PM Subject: Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Utopia {snip} I would hate to be forced to use Emily as a human shield; she may not be as clueless as I am, but I'm sure she's a lot more cynical (smiley face). I found this treasure tonight (under the heading Auric Shield) on an internet healing site, so I know that it has a lot of street cred. Share has mastered this technique and I think she may have written these exact words, in fact (the ones in the first paragraph.) What this means is for me is: no more attempts to creatively insult; no more cynicism or irony; no helping others help themselves with pseudo-insightful observations; no more self-serving, creepy humor. Now, you must realize, I've been practicing and learning all these important skills right here, but I have seen the gemstone of therapeutic wonderment and have had a change of being. The heart on the sleeve shield I have been using is covered in blood spatter and must go in for repair; the breaches in my security resulted in dramatics of grandiose proportions over the holidays (Share, poor woman, had to weather the bulk of my distress); I have been kicked out of the inner circle of my favorite cute (I mean cult) leader, who has apparently retired to the sandy beaches of somewhere for more introspection. I am going to visualize an auric shield, as described below (paragraph 2) and go forth into the wide world of wonderfulness; it is an apt consequence to my many irritating digressions from love and logic that FFL so patiently and compassionately allowed me to display, as I flailed and wallowed my way back, these past 2 years, to a state where I believe that I may be able to act as if, if the knowingness of my first person ontology fails me at any given time. My astrological chart tells me that February is the month for me to move to the front lines, go where the action is, feel the fear and do it anyway, take up drawing, unpack the clothes, become accountable, raise my standards, take care of business, etc., etc., etc. I guess I say all this to say that my recovery from cluelessness and cynicism is likely to be of painfully long duration, but I am confident that my auric shield will protect us both, and I promise that when you call my name, I will be there (I do tend to run a bit late, but I'll work on that too), to distract and dramatize as needed. One way I have been doing this is by simply not responding to comments that annoy me. By not dignifying the comment with a reply or a defense, I can keep my stress levels lower. Of course, this is not easy, and it takes a lot of practice! The other way is through creating an auric shield. To do this, I imagine my aura growing, expanding, and sparkling. Dear Barry, ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha; bha ha ha ha ha ha ha; bwha ha ha ha ha. Yes, yes, I hear you. I was thinking today, on my walk with my intrepid dog through the wetlands and fields of a nearby regional park, that FFL has restored my sense of humor - about myself, about others', about life, about love, about it all. I literally spent months and months and months laughing and giggling...all day affairson and on and on..I laughed and laughed and laughed and cried and laughed and cried and paced and laughed and cried and so on. I lost a couple of inches around my waist. Might have started with Ravi posting Osho's rendition of George Carlin's meaning of the word fuck or it could have started with one of Bob's stories, but I couldn't stop it. And I assure you, that at the end of every reactive state I express is a good laugh. A full belly laugh, an inclusive laugh, a laugh of acknowledgment, a laugh at you and a laugh at me. Tee Hee. Or it might wind up on Syfy as a summer series. Would rather have it streaming and uncut. It really is sad how the Brits audiences are so much smarter than the American ones. I think that may be the limitation that keeps UK and Danish producers from holding out for a direct release or a subtitled release in the U.S. The Killing was SO much better in its Danish original that it makes the American remake pale by comparison, and I actually *liked* the remake...for what it was. The best TV series I saw last year, The Bridge, or Bron/Broen, also from Denmark, looks as if it will never get an American release. Instead they are going to remake it. I shudder to imagine the result. Both of these series were *enormous* hits in the UK, although subtitled. They don't like subtitles either so The Killing got a remake. People are going to think I'm being cynical when I say this, but I really don't think I am. I believe that the primary reason that subtitled movies have lost their market in the US is that many Americans, as many as 50-60%, simply can't read well enough or fast enough to enjoy a subtitled movie. They also don't like dubbing which is kinda funny as they denounce 1970s Italian films not knowing that all languages including Italian got dubbed so they didn't need to stomp carpenters on the adjacent set to stop hammering why they shot a scene. The money is to be made on the stupid when it comes to advertising. However some of the foreign languages and UK series do wind up on Netflix. Lucky for you that they are. Some of the best UK series, not to mention Danish and Swedish, that I've seen in the past few years have still never appeared on US TV (or even on DVD/BR, according to my friends), except as remakes. The French cop series I talked about recently, Braquo, is headed for a remake, too, which means that Americans will miss out on some *superb* performances by the French actors. I'll bet that there hasn't even been an American release of one of the best UK series of past years, The Shadow Line, right?

I live in a valley so can't get any OTA signals (Over The Air). But KCSM channels are on Comcast but I haven't paid much attention to the sub channels. I had a Terk that I lent to my nephew who doesn't know where it is. It had an amp on it. I need to take my laptop with the cheap K-World USB tuner up to Starbucks at the top of the hill and see how many Sacramento stations I can get with the little antenna. The smog check place had a converter and rabbit ears and were getting most of the valley stations. The tuner works with QAM (cable) too. {snip} I would hate to be forced to use Emily as a human shield; she may not be as clueless as I am, but I'm sure she's a lot more cynical (smiley face). Dear Bob, my shield of human-ness has taken a lot of hits of late and I am trying on a new reality - that of emulating Share's approach to me and all others' she has determined are exhibiting negativity - particularly of the nasty and sniping variety. Love, Emily. AURIC SHIELD I have been working on the ability to remain unaffected by and not absorb negative words or negative energies of other people. It is a protective bubble that I envision, through which negativity simply cannot penetrate.
