Breaks my heart thinking of how many cats lives are ruined, or lost, based
on a single test that might not even be correct.

Just wondering if anyone knows if humans who are sick with a cold, the flu, etc
can make a FELV+ cat sick. Magic is currently still asymptomatic (other than
her diagnosis). I'm just wondering when we are sick if they are more
susceptible with their weakened immune system.
Thanks,
Stephanie
I'm sick all the time with bronchitis and sinus infections (healthy,
right?) and my FeLV+ cats have never gotten it.

Not true. There are a lot of illnesses that can be transmitted between animals
and humans, incluiding a lot of different types of colds. Here's a nice long
list to scare yourself with: http://svmweb.vetmed.wisc.edu/pbs/zoonoses/ If
the animals and the people are basically healthy it's not

C, she wasn't talking about Leukemia and Aids, and they actually can catch
certain types of flu and colds from us!

I doubt that they can catch our illnesses.
But I have a question: my cat, Lucky (whom I inherited from my mother who
died in November) has a chronic herpes infection in his left eye. Then I
started getting cold sores on my nose, when I don't even have a cold.
So, just wondering...could we
I think it's an enigma - but I feel that since a common cold is not
species-specific, I don't see how it couldn't be transmitted to cats with
such a compromised immune systems! I'm always careful not to kiss or cuddle,
even with healthy cats, although there's not much I can do about being with
FIV/FeLV are species-specific!

things like giardia are zoonotic, meaning that we can catch from them and vice
versa - many parasites are like that. But, exactly, not these retroviruses.
If you want to search you can google zoonotic diseases. another example is
rabies, obviously zoonotic.

My kitties have suddenly begun playing paws under the door of my rescued IFA
positive FeLV cat and I'm wondering how worried I should be?
I'm kind of worried but it seems he likes to do this and I don't want to
take it away from him as it's his only kitty interaction - he hasn't had any

I think your precautions aren't necessary if your neg is up to date with
vaccinations. I wouldn't be worried at all and would think about starting to
introduce them properly.

Feline herpes is rhinotraceitis so, no, you can't get herpes from a cat.

An acquaintance in rescue put me in touch with a person whose dying relative
has a supposed double positive- FeLV and FIV. She can't take him because of
the amount of other pets the relative has and will add to her own bunch. We've
had a few conversations. I have been told the following: the
Hello All,
I had only heard whispers about FeLV until Monday of this week.
Our little 1.5 year old Bengal, Yoko, tested positive for FeLV (on an ELISA
test, the IFA test is being processed right now). She presented with
puddle-poo and intense vomiting. At first, we thought that she might have

heard of a kitty masturbating...? is he neutered? She might be embarrassed

So this woman is a rescue type person? How did you come into contact?
Wonder if any local rescues or shelters know of her. It is all odd,
could just be emotional issues.
