Hi Gloria, It is suppose to have a kind of hypnotic effect on them to keep them clam, I think it simulates the way a mom kitty holds her kitten, can't say I noticed that with Fred but he figured since he couldn't reach me to bite me anymore it wasn't worth it to try so he stopped after a wee
