Any info on urinary incontinence in the FELV pos cat?  My cat Chloe is running
a low grade temp since night before last.  Doc gave pill form of anti b (said
doesn't have it in the liquid).  I gave one last night along with a bite to my
finger!  I noticed  a trail of urine on the floor on her way to the litter box
this morning.  I guess she missed it.  Hope we are not running into further

If I may offer some advice, don’t sedate!  My vet hates it because you never
know how any cat may react…cats get more frightened by sedation, what’s
happening to them, than a trip.  As long as their cage/carrier is covered, to
make them feel safe, there’s not much of  problem.  I have been transporting
cats by car and even on the plane in the cabin often, and never used sedation.
Some cats were not exactly “tame”.

Just an update.  The rescue was unable to offer any assistance with the
transport in the time frame needed so they are holding off on getting 2 of the
cats there.  Instead I will be transporting an FIV+ stressed out kitty on my
trek.  Wish me luck that his sedatives work!

Thanks so much for the offer to help.

All the Hill's Science Diet foods are absolute junk! Look at the
ingredients - you can do better reading labels on better quality foods, and
get better food for less. Instead of A-D, to mix with meds and use syringe,
I cook chicken and then use my Magic Bullet to make a chicken mousse with
the broth that chicken was cooked in (after removing the fat). Our cats
actually used to prefer the dry Science Diet to the cans!

Yes, that ino does help. Thanks. I'll look for the Nutra-Cal. Is it sort
of like Ensure? Or is it that brown gel like substance that comes in a
tube? I used to give my one cat who had hepatitis that stuff. Don't know
if it's the same. I'll check it out. It's funny but Chloe, FELV pos does
not like the dry Sci Diet food that much. She prefers wet food. She's very
finicky and i go thru lots of cans for her since she is so fussy.

I used Nutra-Cal for my Felv kitty, Prancer that just passed away. He lived
for over 9 years! I ordered it from my Vet or Entirely Pets.com
http://pets.com/ . Also, I used Interferon for many years and this was
only $25.00 for a bottle, the bottle lasted for about 2 months for his size
(10 lbs). Prancer did not like wet food and I typically fed him Science
Diet or Purina One. I know that is a bit pricey for some on a budget, but I
swear by it for a Felv catJ

I also used these for a Felv Kitten (3 weeks old) that somebody threw out on
the street and I was lucky enough to be walking the dog when they dumped the
kitten off. A friend of mine adopted the kitten and we are waiting to
retest the kitten. The kitten is doing great! Cisco actually had hookworms
and I found out from the vet that hookworms can kill a kitten!! Hope this
information helps!

Beth, have you gone to the house and called Barnaby? Maybe he will
recognize your voice. Recently I adopted a semi-feral kitten that escaped
outside (never open cage door outside to pet cute kitty, duh). The woman
feeding the kitten had to come over and catch the kitten, the kitten came
to her voice. Now kitten is inside and well-adjusted. Maybe Barnaby is
waiting to hear your voice. My thoughts are with Barnaby, I pray he pulls
through.

Re: [Felvtalk] FELV urinary incontinence

2012-09-19 Thread Susan Hoffman
Did the vet say whether she was retaining urine in the bladder?  Did he express
the bladder?

With most pill meds you can break it up and put it in a 1 cc syringe with no
needle, draw up a tiny amount of water, and let is dissolve.  I routinely
liquify meds.

Hope we are not running into further
complications.

Re: [Felvtalk] FELV - COLITIS

2012-09-19 Thread dot winkler

Hi - Vet said it is colitis, not urinary.  Said she may have eaten something
bad.  Changed the meds to liquid anti b.  (Not much better as she is a
fighter!) No x-ray yet - he will wait to see how she does on the anti b.
Thanks for the tip on the pill form - good idea for the future.  I actually got
one in her today, though using he pet pockets and some Nutramen gel!

He said doesn't think the colitis is from the leukemia, but that she will have
a hard time fighting fever due to her immune system.

Re: [Felvtalk] FELV - COLITIS/REPLY WED NIGHT

2012-09-19 Thread dot winkler
No, he examined her thoroughly and said it is coming from the anus and showed
me!  Some dripped on the exam table - secretions. It is more like a gel
secretion. I mistook it for urine at first.  He said def colitis, that maybe
she had eaten something to upset her colon.  Gave oral liquid anti b now and
having hard time getting it down her - she squirms and has sharp, sharp teeth,
so I fear she may not get as much as she should.  Iy yi yi
