Here is Snowball. As you can see she requires high maintenance. We
need to wash her face and eyes at least twice a day. Nothing wrong with

Lynne,

Snowball is beautiful! And I could see the smile on your face as you wrote
about all her funny quirks and playfulness that you're learning about. What a
wonderful time this is for you and her. And such a reward for all that you
went through with Boo Boo, from the loving and tenacious care to the pain in
letting him go. I think Boo Boo is enjoying himself immensely, watching the
both of you from the Rainbow Bridge. He's probably whispering into Snowball's
ears funny little things to do to make you laugh.

Oh thank you Wendy for your kind words. What a difference a day can make
though. This little dickens kept us up all night. She would take turns on
each side of the bed, blatting. We'd say, come up Snowy, she would, purr like
a freight train, cuddle up and sleep for 20 minutes, jump down and start the
whole routine again. This morning she was racing around the house like a
lunatic, playing hide and seek. She was kind of naughty yesterday, stalking
Lennie, ate his food, layed in his litter box. Did nothing in his litter box,
just lay in it. So we changed Lennies food. This morning she ate her own
stuff and is using her own litterbox and I think she understands that Lennie
wants nothing to do with her. She'll still walk by him and hiss just to bug
him. He doesn't care. She reminds me a bit of BooBoo, very gentle and loving
but she has a more playful streak in her. Of course poor Boo was in no
condition to be playful. She certainly has helped
ease the pain of losing him, probably because she is pretty high maintenance.
We need to comb her at least once a day and clean her eyes twice a day because
they do tear a lot. I swear she would be show material if those eyes weren't
so much work. I'm not going to do anything extreme with them, just bathe them
with warm water a couple times a day so they don't get crusty. Yep we love her
and you know, if dear Boo hadn't been with us I probably would never have been
made so aware of all the devastating illnesses and terrible conditions so many
of these cats live with. A real eye opener.

Bless you for taking in this kitty. It brought tears to my eyes to read your
post, because I know how very lucky she is to have the new family she's just
inherited. She probably doesn't know it yet, but it won't take her long. What
a wonderful thing that Boo Boo is part of the reason that this beautiful cat
now has a forever home. Please keep us posted on how she does.

We met the foster mom of the cat we adopted at the vets this morning and now
have our new little girl home. She was a rescued cat from this horrible shop
owner in town. I was expecting to meet a kind of pathetic looking little kitty
but to our surprise, she's a 9 pound gorgeous white persian with amber colored
eyes. She's absolutely beautiful but for the moment prefers to be upstairs on
her own. We're not forcing ourselves on her but the foster mom s ays she is
very affectionate and loves attention. She inspected every inch of the house
and will come down when she wants to. We are just so happy to finally have her
here. She has never had a real home, just a pet store and the foster mom.

Hi everyone!
Well, we are 36 hours into a two week trial adoption of a young siamese
FeLV+ male. His name right now is Dusty (it might change, he doesn't really
answer to anything) and he's 11 months old, seal point with icy blue eyes
and a funny little trill instead of a meow. He's precious and is immediate
purrs and headbutts. He's still a little unsure of his surroundings and
tends to still slink places - but I did get to see him in a confident moment
and he's really beautiful. He's slightly overweight so a little more pear
then cat right now but hopefully the activity of both cats will help keep
off the extra weight.
Athena thinks she likes him so far - she has her hissy moments but she is
very interested in touching him - it's really quite amusing to see. He'll
sit on the floor and she'll be on the couch above him, reaching down with
her paw (no claws) to just touch his back or his head tentatively!! almost
as if she doesn't know if he's real. He looks a good bit like Orion who we
lost but I don't think that she could be connecting them visually.

We'll see how it goes - I think he's missing his friends now (he lived with
4 other positives in a foster home)

I got the email I've been waiting for today. I have been trying to
adopt this adorable little rescued cat, persian, for a couple weeks now. I
have missed BooBoo so much and have been through such emotional garbage with
the previous owners of him that I just need another cat to give a good life to.
This cat was rescued from a horrible person who had a pet shop in town. The
humane society and SPCA went in and seized his animals and the City took his
business licence away. This cat, (Snowball) was so sick, eyes swollen shut
from infection, URI and it has taken the foster woman a month to get her well.
She got final approval from the vet to be let go, has got her shots updated and
that's that. She had been disgnosed with herpes. I know, I'm getting myself
into another potential situation here, but at least I know what I have to deal
with if an outbreak occurs. The vet was going to have her spayed before
releasing her but I convinced him that I would do it in
the near future once she has settled down in her new home. I wish I had never
had BooBoo neutered so quickly after getting him. I truly believe it triggered
his rapid downfall.

Anyway, I now have the foster mom's personal email and we are going to start
the process of her coming to me. I am just so happy to be able to look after
another little lost soul.

Very, very important: Cornell website and input requested from our members

2008-03-24 Thread wendy
Hey guys,

I called Cornell and spoke with a gentleman regarding our collective thoughts
on their FeLV information (some being incorrect and out-of-date). I also
forwarded some of our posts to them so they would know specifically what I was
referring to. They have contacted me back (see below) and asked for our input,
specifically on the incorrect information we feel is posted on their website,
and also regarding the inactivation of the FeLV virus due to drying. Email me
or post here anything you'd like me to forward on to this gentleman, who is a
professor of virology there. He requests that information be backed up with
references/studies, so add any studies or links that you can. This is a great
opportunity for us, and for our FeLV+ furbabies, present and future!

Thanks!
Wendy

P.S. I will post his .pdf document in another post since we can't have

Subject: FeLV Inactivation

Good afternoon Wendy,

Thank you for providing Don Personius and the Feline Health Center (FHC)
with the various views and statements about FeLV and the FHC website
posted on [EMAIL PROTECTED] We really appreciate feed back,
positive or negative. For the past several days, whenever I have had a
few minutes, I have tried to address these concerns.

First, let me address the FHC website. I totally agree that the website
is not as current and up-to-date as it should be. We have already made
a major commitment to totally redo the website, to make it dynamic,
current, and a reliable source of information about cat health and
care. This will take us a bit of time, but I hope by later this year we
will have a better website to offer cat owners and veterinarians.

The mere fact that some information on the website has not been updated
recently does not mean it is out of date. I reviewed the posted
information FeLV and failed to identify anything that is out of date.
Some fairly strong statements were made on felvtalk that our information
was incorrect and out of date. I would appreciate receiving details of
what is not correct, with information about the reference sources. We
must rely on controlled studies, not just opinion. Incidentally, I will
be lecturing on FeLV to the 3rd and 4th year veterinary students at
Cornell next Monday, so if there is something I should know about FeLV,
please send it to me via email.

Secondly, the question of inactivation of FeLV by drying needs to be
addressed. Despite searching the literature several times over the past
few days, I have not been able to come up with a valid, controlled study
that addresses the survivability or inactivation of FeLV dried onto a
surface. If your readers know of such a source, please let me know. I
have put together a brief review about FeLV in the Environment in an
attempt to address this issue. I have attached a pdf file of this
review. Please feel free to distribute this or post it on felvtalk.

Sincerely,
