Re: [Felvtalk] Please add Ellie to CLS :(
Jenny, I will remember that always! I can just picture us there together right now, no more pain, only happiness, hugs and kisses. Thank you so much for that picture that I can see in my mind. My little girl will always be with me. God bless to you, too. Kathi, I am so sorry. I was told something once that always comforts me when I lose someone I care about. I believe there is life after this one and perhaps our soul is split such that part of our soul is here in our bodies and the other is in heaven. When we die, perhaps those two parts come together. So here's the thing, when Ellie died and her soul went to heaven to be joined with her soul in heaven, who do you think was the first soul waiting with wide arms to welcome her home? YOU! God bless. yeah, the old wisdom that positive-mom meant all-positive litter, and negative mom meant all negative babies ain't worth the litter they poop in the latest stuff that i've read seems to imply that the role of nurturing, cleaning, etc may be the biggest source of exposure--so, as i put it, if great-aunt tabby is the nursemaid in the family/colony, and SHE is positive, then mom could be negative and babies could test positive because of tabby. i don't know of any proven cases where cats who have processed the virus out of their systems ever re-testing positive from a later exposure: even tho there are different strains of the virus, most sanctuaries have found out that they've had "positives" living with their negatives, often for years, because they didn't know to retest. i know in the sanctuary where i worked, kitties in all stages of infection, from asymptomatic on downhill were together, so the possibilities for re-exposure when the virus was active were certainly there. remember, tho, that they haven't done nearly enough basic research on this virus to have gotten to the point of looking at re-infection MC -- Spay & Neuter Your Neighbors! Hi Kathi, I am so sorry. It's especially difficult when we wonder if we could have done more, if we did the right thing, or even sometimes, after the fact might find we made a mistake. I'm speaking of me not you, in that regard. Your main concern was what was best for Ellie, so please take comfort in that. So many cats don't get the love and care you obviously gave Ellie. And from your description, she clearly loved you too! As time goes on I hope you can remember the happy, fun memories and make that your memorial for Ellie. Re: [Felvtalk] Hello!
Marnie, Your story is similar to mine. I also had a wonderful cat put down due to my own and other people's ignorance, and the guilt will always been with me. It is such a shame that the professionals are so uneducated. But when I found Abbey, I was given options and she has given me so much joy. I have 5 now, only Abbey is positive. I mix, but do not let them share food and luckily she does not groom the others. She was kept separated from the others for nearly a year. I commend you on your dedication to these cats...you have a great story. The FELV vax does not make them positive like FIV nor does it make them carriers. Most people just vax their negatives. Some even vax the positives and claim it helps...don't know if it really does help them though. I am leary of giving Abbey any vax at all for fear it may stress her. She is a 2 1/2 year old very healthy girl with no symptoms and gets Transfer factor and L-lysine daily and also is on a strictly raw food diet. Good luck with your sanctuary... what a wonderful thing you are doing!
