noses and refuse to touch it. Of course, when I let them outside, they love
mice, moles and voles. Funny tho, they never eat the organs, just head, legs

canned food unless it is body temperature. In the meantime, I feed Blue

getting sick every time they ate from the corn, wheat and soy. As soon as I

Re: [Felvtalk] "Slightly positive"

2013-05-12 Thread dlgegg
Adult FELV cats are less of a heartbreak as a lot of times they can live to an
old age, just scare you every time they get an infection, get off their feed,
etc. Annie is one of those, minor things come up, I run to the vet and he
grins and says "It is just an ordinary runny nose". Of course, I never know
for sure until he looks at her. With Nitnoy, she was just at 1 year, it was
different. A coon bit off all but 3-4" of her tail before she got to me, she
was very small and frightened. She never felt secure and I think that
contributed to her early death from compacted anal glands which became
infected. I learned. Now I check everyone's glands at least once a week.
That is the way it goes, we learn from experience and maybe by the time we die,
we will know everything there is to know. In the meantime, we give them love
and a safe place to live and they give us more love than we know what to do
with.

Hi Marta,

Unfortuntely euthanasia is the best option in some cases. For example
if the cat who tested positive is a shelter cat.

However there are several of us on this list who have FelV sanctuaries,
and I am one of them. I have lost many kittens who has FelV pos. mothers
but my older FelV cats often live symptom free for many years. For example
I have two FelV + cats who are 5 years old.

Please, try a raw diet for these kitties. I had one felv+ with severe
diarrhea...went through all the meds and tests...it is the only reason she
is alive today at 5 years old. Another cat (negative) had bloody diarrhea,

don't need meds, they need good quality species-appropriate food! It works
almost instantly! Please look at catinfo.org and catnutrition.org. I
could go on and on about the health benefits of raw food, but please check
out these websites. There are many commercial foods you can buy or make it

their health since their bodies are not absorbing nutrients. I wish your

Re: [Felvtalk] Diarrhea

2013-05-12 Thread Margo

Hi Gary,

Have they been checked for Trichomonas foetus? That was the first
thing that came to mind when I read your post. See if this might make sense;

http://www.cvm.ncsu.edu/docs/documents/ownersguide_tfoetus_revised_122009_final.pdf

You might be able to stop the actual diarrhea with loperomide, but
that's short term and won't eliminate the cause.

Have they ever lived together? Have they been treated for parasites
even if they don't show up in a fecal? Most worms/parasites only show
intermittantly, so I always try a course of panacur for diarrhea that doesn't
self-limit.

I will think more about it :)

HTH,

Margo
