When I was fostering a FeLV+ cat, I wouldn't allow him contact with my own cats. Short of bringing him into her home, she's doing everything she can to save this cat, offering to cover all of his vet bills and even get him a dental. Some of the people living there put food out. Occasionally a cat is trapped and taken to an area vet. Storm showed up after Hurricane Irene. He was trapped and taken to the vet to get shaved down because he was badly matted and infested with fleas. At the vet's it was discovered he was already neutered. His ears were not notched and he has no microchip. Storm has not shown any aggression at all. He is fed separately, but the other cats don't bother him. He is not feral. I was asked if I would take him home with me when I visited in October. I took him to the local vet to be tested and that is when it was discovered that he is FeLV+. I have a 3yo female cat who is FeLV-. There is no way I could keep him separated from my cat. While the rest of the colony will survive the winter, it is doubtful if Storm would make it through the winter outside and without a regular source of food. The campground where he is now closes at the end of November. Take him and love him. He was sent to you for love and care. Every time I have lost one furry soul, anoher one came to me. I have 7 now and would not part with any of them, the love and company they give me is priceless and they give me a reason to get up in the morning. They will walk all over me, Meow, pull my hair and sometimes I wih they would just leave me alone, but that is just what I do not need. I need to get up and deal with life, not hide from it. I mix my FELV's with my non-FELV's - have had no problem. Several on this list do. Also I have a friend who has 1 FELV and 1 non-FELV - she gives the FELV kitty oral interferon alpha, which is well known on this list. They're both 4-5 yrs old now, doing fine. Oh no. I'm so incredibly sorry to hear that. I pray you find comfort in knowing that Tigger is in a wonderful place, where he knows only perfect health and happiness. And when you consider that you'll have eternity together, this separation is but a speck of time. Try to remember that he's not gone, just gone ahead. Nov 17 marked my last dog's first birthday in Heaven. It's been a year and not a day goes by that I don't think of him fondly and miss him dearly. John, I know that Tigger would want you to have your heart open to a cat in need (Storm). You have the support of a great fellowship of cat lovers. Over the past 2 years I have lost 3 cats to old age/disease and I immediately found 3 loving cats that needed a home. Nothing will replace Tigger, but every new cat brings so much joy. Please feel free to crosspost. Thanks, Cindy Here's the info she sent: There is a resident population of feral cats at Tom's Cove Campground. Some of the people living there put food out. Occasionally a cat is trapped and taken to an area vet. Storm showed up after Hurricane Irene. He was trapped and taken to the vet to get shaved down because he was badly matted and infested with fleas. At the vet's it was discovered he was already neutered. His ears were not notched and he has no microchip. Storm has not shown any aggression at all. He is fed separately, but the other cats don't bother him. He is not feral. I was asked if I would take him home with me when I visited in October. I took him to the local vet to be tested and that is when it was discovered that he is FeLV+. I have a 3yo female cat who is FeLV-. There is no way I could keep him separated from my cat. While the rest of the colony will survive the winter, it is doubtful if Storm would make it through the winter outside and without a regular source of food. The campground where he is now closes at the end of November.
