My thought on all of this was, how do we know this
wasn't a 'dry run' for terrorists? How do we know
that they aren't testing the waters to find through
which company and in what way they can inflict the
most damage through our food supply? Me paranoid? No

Re: Looking for a good canned food

2007-03-26 Thread wendy
Those companies won't have to worry too much about
making money off this incident. The law of supply and
demand will automatically up their profits because you
can't buy the other stuff right now, and a lot of
people won't anyway when the products hit the shelves
again. It's just like the peanut butter scare. I
still can't buy Peter Pan or Great Value brand, and
Jif can't keep the shelves stocked because their
production lines weren't slated to handle that kind of
demand all of a sudden. Jif has profited quite nicely
from Con Agra's misfortune, and the other cat/dog food
supply companies will enjoy the same trend for the
time being.

class and advertising are usually oxymorons--maybe i'm just too jaded,
but i HAVE gotten lots of EMAIL ads for other foods. i think
advertisers will do anything to make money if they think they can.

maybe because big companies keep getting away with it when they
disregard public safety, so don't care as much as they might if the
laws on the books were enforced?

Any manufactured or processed product -- and even organic spinach -- can land
on the supermarket shelves with a contaminant of some sort at some point. It's
been a week since this all hit. Friskies and other pet food sellers do have
info on their websites. I would not expect them to advertise in a way that
would be overtly disparaging of competitors -- liability issues -- but I

Re: Looking for a good canned food

2007-03-21 Thread elizabeth trent

Fancy Feast is always a big hit here. When they are sick they seem to
prefer the ones that are just the regular pate (not minced, grilled, or
marinated - those they just eat the gravy). Otherwise, the 'Sardines,
Shrimp and Crab in aspic' (orange label) is the hands down favorite. The
new fancy feast medleys with the garden greens are scarfed up immediately
and promptly regurgitated...the yellow fin tuna being the favorite there.

Mama Kitty is going through an FeVL+ crash and not wanting to eat. I opened
up a pouch of Chicken of the Sea brand Salmon -- just the plain kind - no
marinade -- she will eat that when she won't eat anything else.

Kitty kisses to Cassie,

I have 10 inside & tastes differ among all. But Wellness Turkey or
Wellness Chicken is way up on the list. Some will eat the Felidae
canned. Most will eat the Friskies Turkey Filets that someone else
mentioned And also PetGuard's Fish, Chicken & Liver (that's one
variety not 3!)

everyone was throwing it up - it was the same last night with the

While it may be largely a matter of personal taste, I've had a
couple of very finicky eaters who wanted to subsist on
Friskies turkey prime fillets. Also, Marie, the ultimate
finicky eater, can tell the difference between Friskies
regular chicken in gravy and the senior formula/special diet
formulation of Friskies chicken in gravy. She prefers the
senior formula/special diet variety and won't touch the
other. (Marie is 9 years old. She has never eaten a single
morsel of dry food in her life. And I'm sure she never will.
At this point, if ever I saw her eat dry food, I'd rush her

to the vet. She eats strictly Friskies prime filllet
varieties, and senior formula or special diet chicken in gravy.)

Re: Looking for a good canned food

I too have a house full of finicky eaters that won't touch anything
that's priced above a $1 a can. It's very frustrating trying to
convince them that it's good for them and that mommy is sick of
purchasing expensive canned cat food to feed to the dogs. They all love
the Innova Evo dry, and they also like the Solid Gold Katz-n-Flocken.

All this talk about canned food reminded me of a brand that my cats did
like but I was unable to find nearby with any regularity. It's called
Triumph. I just found an online pet store that offers a ton of
varieties: http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/
Check the ingredients list though, some seem better than others. A
couple of them have onion powder/salt added, and I've always heard that
was a no no.

Pet food direct also sells the dry I use at a slightly lower price than
where I'm getting it now, (onlynaturalpet.com). I'm going to check
shipping costs and see which is truly cheaper before I order.

Re: Looking for a good canned food

2007-03-21 Thread JENI RECA
my cats love the fancy feast medleys too...especially the chicken and
turkey. I am trying pet gold elite and getting mixed reviews. As a snack
one of my cats loves the sheba snack cans, they aren't the full meal cans
but little snacking wet food, expensive, but worth it when the cats love it
so much. Good luck

Debbie-
Well I "guess" it really depends on our fur babies. And believe me, I have
a ungiue crew, and that's putting it mildly...
Some will eat just about anything, but I'll focus on my persnickety
babies...
My Puma (ancient, ill & w/ kitty alzheimers [EXCEPT when it comes to food]
)

thrives on Fancy Feast, especially the "new" kind. ($$$'s, but he's worth
it..). He also LOVES Friskies Tuna & Egg. Only thing is, I really
have to

smush it for the old boy He likes his food really, really wet. He also
loves Friskies "Mixed Grill". And, Ocean Whitefish, Turkey & Giblets,
Salmon...
And, except for a "few", my babies detest any sliced
varieties...(Except

for the Friskies Turkey & Giblets - probably know it's "good" for them...)
Have to "confess", they all hated the good stuff (canned, they ALL eat
"good" dry.)..
Another thing, almost all of them dislike any beef flavor. Even the
"non-persnickety" ones.
Hope you get some suggestions that Cassie will actually love...
Sorry if I wasn't more helpful. With this "memory thing", it's
impossible to recall all. Just remember Friskies 'cause it's what we
exclusively fed

at shelter..
Hugs & Best Wishes,
Patti & her (Friskies/Fancy Feast) gang

My kids eat the felidae canned just fine. But I have heard other people say
their cats do not. I think it is a process of trying different things until
y ou find one they like.

Mine hear a can - any can - opening and they go nuts!

much.
Thanks again Susan. By the way - do you mind if I ask where you are from?

While it may be largely a matter of personal taste, I've had a couple of
very finicky eaters who wanted to subsist on Friskies turkey prime fillets.
Also, Marie, the ultimate finicky eater, can tell the difference between
Friskies regular chicken in gravy and the senior formula/special diet
formulation of Friskies chicken in gravy. She prefers the senior
formula/special diet variety and won't touch the other. (Marie is 9 years
old. She has never eaten a single morsel of dry food in her life. And I'm
sure she never will. At this point, if ever I saw her eat dry food, I'd
rush her to the vet. She eats strictly Friskies prime filllet varieties,
and senior formula or special diet chicken in gravy.)

I have a dry food addict who became ill a couple of
months ago with a severe liver infection and lost a
lot of weight. I tried to get Boo to eat everything,
but he had absolutely no interest in any food (except
meat baby food) until I tried the new Fancy Feast
elegant medleys. He just gobbles the entire 3 oz.
down immediately. It's really expensive - about twice
as much as the regular Fancy Feast cans, but worth it
if you need your kitty to eat.
