Sandra,
1st thank you for taking in Penny. Mixing is such a personal decision. Like
other I mix my positives and negatives. My negatives all had their FeLV
vaccine and booster one month later before I mixed them. My positives were
kittens when I rescued them and never threw off the virus.
My understanding is FIV is transmittable only via a deep cat bite (cat to
cat). I am sure there is lots more info at the link provided!

I agree, the older cats don't seem as susceptible.

There are a couple of other FIV groups too. At any rate, seems like
the transmission is always said to be via very deep bite wound, and I
never have neutered cats do that. I of course mix my FIV cats - they
never get sick, do very well. They're the best!

Classic hyper-t symptoms:
No diarrhea or vomiting that I've seen. He just seems hungry all the time and follows me around crying at me. We did some tests yesterday and are waiting for results.
this is exactly how Fred was and he was very early hyper-t. Only found
with the tfree4 test.

Hi, everyone:
I have an odd question. How easy is it for my new kitten to get feline
leukemia.? Is it only transmitted through other cats or can it be transmitted
through something the sick?kitty touched? It's been a year since we?lost
Smokey.?I'm?probably being silly, but the kitten is in the
Hi, Kathryn -
It's never silly when the safety of our kitties is involved. ;-)
Although FeLV virus is now thought to be able to exist *somewhat* longer in
the air than first thought -- "first thought" was in terms of seconds rather
than minutes. So even if it can exist "longer," we're still talk
Kathryn, it is my understating that the virus only lives for a few hours
outside the body. Since it has been one year since Smokey passed you should be
fine.

I have 2 FIV who I keep with 2 FeLV+. Of course the FIVs are vaccinated for
FeLV. They are the sweetest cats. I have always heard that transmission is
through deep bites, so I've never been worried about the others catching it.
They live in the garage away from my other cats, which some people th

Thanks for all the info. It's been really helpful. I'll keep stella at

spend at home while I introduce stella and penny to each other.

We are hoping that's what it is. We did a panel which does a T3 and TF4 test
so hopefully something will show up. We are worried it's something much worse

Thank you all for the information. I was really worried about it. I can now put
it to rest. The kitty is doing well though he's hiding under a chair and only
comes out to eat and drink. Of course, he's using his cat box. He is so cute
and purrs when we scratch under his chin even though he is f
