I've found shapes generally to be more reliable since Fin14, but you are right that independent time sigs are a problem. (Especially jumping between mus and musx.) But either way it doesn't really address OP's issue. Whether you could include the "niente" symbol or not, you'd still have these issu

I have often wished for a "cresc" or "dim" line option in custom lines, but alas it doesn't exist. That said, what you want to do is *much* more reliable starting in Fin14 due to the beat attachment of hairpins. I would enter the circles as text expressions. The beauty of beat-attached hairpins is
