2016-07-30 Thread Steve Parker
From a piano player:
G2#11/B
Very clear and aurally (without context..) coherent.

Re: [Finale] chord question

2016-07-30 Thread Lon Price
The intent here is to raise the 5th a half step. If you were a piano player
reading a chord chart, would you rather see B-9#5, or G(add2)(#11)/B? They
both spell the exact same notes, but the first example is far easier to
recognize. Or how about this - Dmaj7(sus4)/B.

From an improv vamping POV it proves convenient, and that may well be all that
is required. But I can't see calling the 6th degree of a minor scale - Bb here
- a #5 in any theory book.
Playing the chords in context it sounds like what it is: a minor 6th.
Alone it sounds like Bb/D b5.
Thanks for the example! Well found.

I might use G69/B, which IS in the Finale suffixes.

Or you might need to create it from zero, as others have suggested. The chord
suffix editor is frustrating as all get out, though. Good luck.

Re: [Finale] Chord question

2016-07-28 Thread Christopher Smith
I might use G69/B, which IS in the Finale suffixes.

Or you might need to create it from zero, as others have suggested. The chord
suffix editor is frustrating as all get out, though. Good luck.

I don't think any voicing would produce Bm11(b6) You need to type it the way
you want it and then create a chord suffix when asked to. Or create it first.

Re: [Finale] Chord question

2016-07-28 Thread j...@thomastudios.com
Raphael poses a good question as to exactly what notes you’re using.

But, if you absolutely need that chord symbol, you’re going to have to create
the chord suffix yourself. It’s not really a standard chord symbol and it
doesn’t exist in any Finale suffix library.

Which notes do you exactly mean? Is the chord with a 7th or is it add11?

Yes, very much.

The reason why 6/9 chord is used by specifying to omit major 7th is
because melody is root of the chord, that will produce distractive
flat
9th sound. If there is no root in the strong beat of the melody,
there

is no need to use 6/9 chord. It is more correct to say Maj 13th. In
another word, 6/9 chord notation is to tell the performer don't dear
voice major 7th!.

[Finale] Chord Question Again :)

2006-07-19 Thread Jacki Barineau
Hi, Everyone - Another chord question for you! This song is in Cm
and the chord is spelled:

Ab - C - Eb - F - Bb - Eb

Would this be an AbMaj13?

The chord before it is an Eb. The chord after it is a Cm. This
chord is kind of a suspended sounding chord that does not resolve.

Thanks!

I would call it an Ab 6/9. The 13th implies a minor 7th and an 11th
(#?) that aren't there.
