So it would seem we just need someone with the login to dotster.com who can 
update the record for finkmirrors.net to name servers which have a CNAME entry 
to point the finkmirrors.net server. But was that finkmirrors.net server hosted 
by ig42.org ? I’m a recent subscriber to fink-core, but I 
understood that this servers being shutdown because someone was changing jobs? 
If that finkmirrors.net  server is still running, then 
the DNS declaration on dotster.com  could be modified to 
add a CNAME entry for  finkmirrors.net  and it’s IP 
address, and then set the primary and secondary name server on dotster.com to 
ns1.dotster.com , and ns2.dotster.com 
 so that the name query will be directed to 
dotster.com’s name servers, which will be able to answer the query. I apologise 
if I’m just repeating what is already known, or if I’m missing something? As 
far as I can see, it’s only the IP of the finkmirrors.net server which is 
needed to be known to fix the problem?

Sadly that isn’t much help, whois on the command line will return that for 
everyone and it’s all stuff we already know.

The issue is that ig42.org  is gone, and since those are the 
NS servers it means the zone is gone.  The zone needs to be reset to new NS 
servers and rebuilt, I do not have access tot he UI so I can’t do it, I’ve been 
waiting on smacks to reset the NS servers so we can start to rebuild the zone 
file.

Looks the entire zone is done, dog, nslookup and online tools return NOTHING 
for finkmirrors.net

The zone should have

@ A -> 72.13.188.158
www CNAME -> @
yeg.ab.ca A -> 72.13.188.158
master CNAME -> yeg.ab.ca
master.ca CNAME -> yeg.ab.ca
master.us CNAME -> yeg.ab.ca
distfiles.yeg.ab.ca A -> 72.13.188.158
distfiles CNAME -> distfiles.yeg.ab.ca
distfiles.master CNAME -> distfiles.yeg.ab.ca

There should be an entry for ber.de.eu but I’m not sure what the IP is
ber.de.eu A -> ???

So someone should recreate this I guess??

Firstly it should resolve to something, anything, the entire zone is missing, 
finkmirrors.net  and www should go to snitch but they 
aren’t set at all.

Then all the mirror entries are also missing, so master should point to edm.ab, 
edm.ab should point to snitch, etc etc

If you use dig locally you’ll see there is no zone at all hence nothing is 
working at all.

Anyone still at home at fink-core?

It has been almost a week that the rsync mirrors are stuck.
Hasn't rangerrick explained to anyone how to kick them back to life?

Seeing the messages at gmane.os.apple.fink.auto-logs, it looks like 
gecko2 isn't here anymore either. His server scripts seem to be stuck in 
an infinite loop since a long time.
