No--the rsync mirrors should be updated much more frequently than that.

sudo env PERL5LIB=$PERL5LIB dpkg --configure xml-sax-pm586
Apparently it works:

10.3 doesn't have libgssapi in /usr/lib, so once --with-gssapi=/usr ...
If I remove --with-gssapi=/usr the update works without further glitch.

I have finally decided to install 10.4 on my G5.
Apparently the 64 bit capability of the G5 is note detected:

I have googled for help, but nothing I have found did help.
Note that I have xml-sax-pm586 installed.
