Yes, as

pdf.height = stage.stageHeight;

I found one glaringly stupid mistake I'd made: not including the local
documents I was loading with the AIR build. When I simply tested the
movie, it finally showed. Still can't get a site URL (such as adobe home

Re: [Flashcoders] Upgrading from Master Collection Cs4 -> just Flash Cs5?

2010-06-21 Thread Matt S.
Frankly, I think it borders on false advertising. When one buy a
Suite, or the Master Collection, obviously you're getting some kind of
bundled deal, but it still feels like you're buying a set of
*individual* applications all at once, not a single product consisting
of components. I think most people (and I've asked around a little and
gotten agreement) think of it as an affordable way to buy a set of
apps that they would have bought individually otherwise, and an easy
no-brainer sort of way to get all the apps appropriate to your area of
focus, eg "Web". But it never even occurred to me that my copy of
Flash (or Photoshop or Illustrator) was from that point on locked in
to the entire Suite, nor does Adobe make any effort to clarify that at
the time of purchase. And as I said before, now would be a good time
for Adobe to encourage upgrades to Flash CS5 by any means necessary,
given that the software's survival will be largely dependent on the
success of AIR for Android, multitouch, etc, eg, all the things you
can't do unless you upgrade.

Anyhoo, that's my 2¢ of whining

Re: [Flashcoders] Job Openings at Bank of America for US/Canada

2010-06-21 Thread Matt Perkins
Right now I'm AS3 specialized and able to make it look nice w/ Photoshop
(ui design). I know a lot about SCORM/AICC also - I programmed my own
Flash LMS/APIs in AS2 a few years ago.

At points during my career I was pretty great with Director Lingo,
Javascript and AS1/2 - but don't use it and it goes away. I've been in
multimedia/web for 15 years now, so I've done a lot over the years.

My personal site has a decent representation of what I've done:
http://nudoru.com/

When I went to school (95-00) there really wasn't any multimedia
education beyond intro classes but I'd been teaching myself Photoshop
2.5/3 from a warez'd copy I got from a BBS. So I learned everything on
the job as I went and during long support calls with Macromedia as I
needed it (bonus to acually buying the software). The late 90's was
Joshua Davis/Praystation/Kioken/Dreamless/k10k envy so I did a ton of
experimentation and and learned from that. After that I went after the
hard projects at work and learned what I needed from books, sites and
peers to get it done.

I found the info about not upgrading from CS-> single product on the
upgrade page for Flash.

That sucks, good job we got lucky upgrading from Master CS3 to Flash CS4
with free PAU to Flash CS5 before someone changed the rules - maybe you
can cite that as a a precedent and claim foul to Adobe. Looks like a
few people on the forums have found they have been shafted too.

And then Adobe wonder why their sales go down...

AS, like JavaScript, has a built-in library of string functions. Most
of them have the same names and work the same as they do in
JavaScript. The indexOf function lets you search for the existence of
a substring.

http://www.foundation-flash.com/tutorials/stringfunctions2/

I'm not sure why everyone else is recommending the use of regular
expressions, which seem massive overkill for what you're trying to do.

RE: [Flashcoders] HTMLLoader and AIR -- always a nice white blank

2010-06-21 Thread Tony Fairfield
Thanks, that sounds worth focussing on. I'll try that out. I've got the
COMPLETE so far but I'll investigate what else I can trace.

If you haven't tried this yet: Add event listeners and traces to all of
the
relevant events that the HTML component throws, and see if that can give
you
more details on what it's doing.. or not doing.

Yes, as

pdf.height = stage.stageHeight;
pdf.width = stage.stageWidth;

I found one glaringly stupid mistake I'd made: not including the local
documents I was loading with the AIR build. When I simply tested the
movie, it finally showed. Still can't get a site URL (such as adobe home
page) to work, but I'm working on that one now...

Thanks for your reply,

Did you trace the width and height?

[Flashcoders] five 3d

2010-06-21 Thread Gustavo Duenas
Hi Guys, any ideas where can I get a good tutorial about five 3d, I
saw it on its new version and kind of like it, but the tutorials seems
a little obscure for me.

Some links for these tutorials?

[Flashcoders] display list overrides keyframes

2010-06-21 Thread Tony Fairfield
Is there a way to overcome the following:

I have a timeline file, with quiz buttons on each frame. Each button is
a duplicate of one basic movie clip with a linked class and a
constructor that initializes the behaviour -- rollovers etc. For each
frame, the buttons are named "a1", "a2, "a3" etc. The problem is, I
foolishly assumed that a new keyframe meant these would be considered
all brand new buttons by Flash, and their constructor functions would
dutifully fire afresh, and all would be well. Of course, they don't: as
far as the Display List is concerned, if there was a button called "a1"
in frame 1, and if there's a button with the same name in frame 2, they
are exactly the same button, to hell with the keyframe. Hence, no
buttons after frame 1 will fire their constructor function. Even the
state of the previous button -- if it had been selected - is applied to
the new button with the same name.

Normally, I would have built something like this dynamically, adding and
removing the buttons, but I was given an exisitng file that was quicker
(I thought) to work with as is, than to rework into a single frame,
dynamic file. I'm probably just going about things the wrong way. I hope
this is a fairly garden variety issue with a solution (other than
abandoning the timeline approach).

Thanks for any input.

Re: [Flashcoders] display list overrides keyframes

2010-06-21 Thread Juan Pablo Califano
A possible workaround could be adding a reset method that (re)initalizes the
behaviour. You could move your constructor logic to this method. So, your
constructor calls reset() when the object is first instantiated. Then, when
neccesary, you could call this method to reset the behaviours (in a frame
script in the timeline or where your code issues the gotoAndStop or
gotoAndPlay that changes the frame).

Hope this helps.

Cheers
