but I don't know how long this will take - if you notice the MSVC build
host offline, this is why.

Oh for f*cks sake. Look, this discussion isn't about who can afford what,

I've been told by a guy that built a set of these for his cockpit that he

Since this machine also hosts the VM that runs my mail server,

I see you disabled the Windows-release task that is fine until
we start a new release cycle. The MSVC machine is also disconnected.
 Is it intended ?

Yes. I needed to use the machine. :)
I've re-enabled the MSVC host.

I think the problem is that a build is redone every time fgrun is
changed because there is no release branch, and it rebuilds
everything because Jenkins touch files when it copies artifacts.

One solution could be to split the task : one for building binaries,
 one for packaging.

One thing I noticed it did is that it built windows-release, built two
other packages and then built windows-release _again_. That's when I got
really annoyed. :)

[Flightgear-devel] FYI: New airport nav-aid data available for X-Plane (2011.13) (fwd)

2011-12-13 Thread Gene Buckle

Subject: [x-plane-tech] New airport nav-aid data available for X-Plane
 (2011.13)

New data is now available for X-Plane. This is data cycle 2011.13 valid
from 15-Dec-2011 to 12-Jan-2012. This data is for X-Plane 9 and for
X-Plane 10.

This update includes many minor updates, including four new airports in
China, and many new airports in the South Pacific and Antarctica. Please
note that terrain for extreme latitudes (eg. Antarctica) is not included
with X-Plane 9 or X-Plane 10. For X-Plane 9 you may download the terrain
from http://www.xpsrtm.com/ (but these old-format data files will not work
with X-Plane 10).

These files will work under Windows, Mac OS or Linux. If you wait until the
next incremental release of X-Plane 10, then this data will be installed
automatically if you use the X-Plane Updater - this avoids the need to
download my files and install the files into the correct folders - this
method is highly recommended!

As always, this new data for X-Plane 9 and X-Plane 10 is available from my
website at:

http://data.x-plane.com http://data.x-plane.com/

Please join me in thanking those who keep contributing to the X-Plane
database. Helpful feedback is always appreciated.

AeonWave allows for multiple sounds with an offset to a center point of
an audio-frame. Moving or rotating the audio-frame influences the
position and orientation if all registered sound emitters.

So theoretically, you could locate a sound emitter at a tire contact
point? Neat. :)

 http://wiki.flightgear.org/FlightGear_Git:_splitting_fgdata

For some reason, this splitting seems to takes forever on Windows (like 25
 minutes for the 744),
while Jorg managed to split the F-f16 in 90 seconds on Linux! Jorg will run a
 script (being Cedric's
script, or some homemade combination) to split all the other aircraft.

@martin, I also have concerns about the easy-updating that we might loose.
 However, I found
something called git submodules that might do the trick for us. There's a
 reference in the wiki
article. Maybe someone with more git experience can comment on that one? I
listed some cons and pros on the wiki, feel free to extend.
Anyone's comments are welcome of course :)

I would agree that it needs to be done, but if you wait around for a
global consensus on the how, it's never going to happen. Just do it.

It's widely used practice _not_ to set the sender to the list address

the recipients failes with a message which can't be properly identified

Martin, this is actually only seen with your messages. I use Alpine to

Anyhow I still assume those EMails posted via tin/INN are formally

You can assign any number you want to a COM port when it is driven by
a USB-to-COM or Ethernet-to-COM adapter. Simply go to the Device Manager
and set it between 1 and 255.

I know that, but most of the time you don't specifically set a COM port
number by hand - you let Windows pick the next un-used port #.

if you use j++ the compiler has to make a copy of j with each iteration of
the loop but if you use ++j it does not have to make a copy. This will
make the loop more efficient although only by a small amount.

Are you sure about that? I just tried it with a little example and at least
gcc compiles both variants to the exact same assembly code. Tried it with and
 without -O2.

That would freak me out. Doesn't ++j mean increment j, then test

No, for a for loop

for ( [1]; [2]; [3] )

where [3] is ++j will increment j before use. However, in an
if-statement the complete statement [3] is evaluated before the test [2]
is done. If the compiler is smart it will produce the fastest binary
code regardless ++j or j++. However, if the [3] is more complicated like
a hypothetical i = ++j + k the compiler will most probably generate
different binary code (compared to i = ++j + k).

Right, but j++ will increment _after_ it's used, correct? So how could
++j vs j++ generate the same assembly code and be correct?

However, I'm using NThusim+ for the image distortion and some pretty
awesome Excel hackery that Wayne created in order to handle some of the
parabolic distortion issues.

I know there was some work done in order to pre-warp the output from FG,

(PyHLA).

Well you can use PyHLA - That should just work with any RTI-1.3 library.

But, did you try OpenRTI?

I haven't tried anything yet. I'm still tossing the idea around in my
head and trying to decide if I want to learn yet _another_ toolkit (PyQT4,
PyGUI or whatever else). My main issue is that I'm primarily a Windows
developer and I don't have much interest in cross-platform anything. :)

There is a python binding included for the newer rti1516 standard. And
in fact I have some python glue code that makes it easy to do python
clients with that binding. We have run all this at LinuxTag. Including a
small python script that prvides an ogle doing cirgles around a fixed
point just as a demo how this

What's an ogle?

The idea here is to create a stand-alone application that replaces all the
built-in GUI functionality and communicates with FlightGear via the HLA
interface. When the manager application meets that goal, the existing GUI
can be either removed completely or simply unbound at compile time so
it's not available.

Yes, in the long term this could be kind of a plan.
I can see several components in this area:

The viewer. That was the original reason I started fgviewer. I want to have a
pure viewer application that does not do any simulation.

I've never used fgviewer so I'm not sure what it does.

The simulated aircraft. This includes *all* subsystems that belong to this
particular aircraft. This must be done in a way that you can run several of
these in a single federation.

The management application wouldn't be running any of the sub-systems,
just observing them. One of the issues that caught me up short was the
requirement to sift through the chosen aircrafts configuration and Nasal
files in order to take into account all the little custom menu items and
controls that would have to be replicated on the manager interface. That
was pretty discouraging all by itself.

I think the scope of what you've got in mind and what I've got in mind are
widely seperated. :)

My initial concept would essentially perform the same functions as the
instructor console in a commercial FFS. You could tweak any parameter of
the simulator from that point, including aircraft selection, position,
configuration, etc. This app wouldn't be running on the same machine as
the simulator scene generator itself. (What would be neat is a three
machine setup - one for the scene generator, one for the flight/systems
model and one for the instructor/manager console.)

I think I need to sit down and do a proper outline of what I see going
into this and where it could go. I'd rather not create something like
this organically. It could get ugly quick that way.

Thanks for the detailed info Mathias!

[Flightgear-devel] Build server update..

2011-06-22 Thread Gene Buckle
I've updated the Hudson server to use Jenkins. The system seems to be
doing just fine after the upgrade. :)

James - you'll need to update the client on your Mac build machine.

tnx.

be condensed down to a Portal link that points to this wiki link:

 gui.menuEnable(radio,0);

 setprop(sim/menubar/default/menu[5]/item[3]/name, SCR-522C-radio);

 gui.menuEnable(SCR-522C-radio,1);

I would REALLY suggest the use of named constants instead of hard-coded

For the record, I don't think we are going in the right direction with this.
I personally think more modules should be split out rather than integrated.
For example, all the GUI stuff should be thrown out and left to a
launcher/control console application. We could then get rid of plib
and avoid the what gui toolkit to use controversy (at least for the
core FG). FDM and visualization should also be split, obviously with
multiple instances allowed of either.

I really, really, like this idea. When was the last time CAE shipped a
simulator that had a drop down menu appear in the visual system? :)

All the functionality in the GUI could be provided in a stand-alone tool
that talked to the simulator. You could run it on one machine or on a
dedicated machine.

[Flightgear-devel] FlightGear Manager...

2011-06-15 Thread Gene Buckle
In thinking about it a bit and being reminded of the existing HLA
interface that FlightGear has, I'm leaning toward proposing something
built with Python and the PyQT4 GUI library. Both components are
cross-platform and there is a Python binding for the CERTI HLA library
(PyHLA).

The idea here is to create a stand-alone application that replaces all the
built-in GUI functionality and communicates with FlightGear via the HLA
interface. When the manager application meets that goal, the existing GUI
can be either removed completely or simply unbound at compile time so
it's not available.

have difficulties in keeping myself motivated.

That's completely understandable. The bickering does get a bit old and
I'm just as guilty as others in my participation in it. :(

FlightGear has been around as a going project since 1997. I've hung
around the edges of the project this whole time, some times more active
than others. I've not contributed a lot of code, but I've tried to push
in the right spots periodically. I suspect if I get within arms' reach of
Curt, I'm a cooked geek. :)

FlightGear has some of the best systems simulation interfaces I've seen.
It's easy to use and frankly, on par with what FSX/ESP/Prepar3d offers in
terms of ability. The flight modeling is right up there as well - JSBSim
has a great tendency to wipe the floor with the blood-encrusted remains of
what FSX calls a flight model.

One thing that really lacks is the scene generator. I'm not really
interested in why it's like that, but it is something that should be
addressed. I'm absolutely not going to point fingers - frankly, I'm not
qualified and it wouldn't really solve anything. What needs to happen is
a post mortem of it. Outstanding issues need to be identified, they need
to be triaged and they need to be addressed. These things need to be
committed to paper (e or otherwise) before any code is written in order to
prevent any ugly surprises down the road.

FlightGear is a huge, complex project and has no kind of real project
management at all. If that is not addressed, the mad rush in generally
the same direction will eventually lead to the end of FlightGear. Be it a
fork or just developer apathy, it's going to end.

I'll put my hat in the ring to take over this duty - I figure I've annoyed
just about every developer on the list, which everyone knows is the
hallmark of a good manager. :) However, if it's not me, it MUST be
someone. We need to be organized and we need it badly. The best way to
get this herd of cats moving is to stuff 'em all in a long narrow hallway
with a really angry dog on the end you don't want them moving towards. :)

Woof. :)

It's your call guys.

Don't know how to report scam on dailymotion :(

Robert, all you need to do is click the Report button that's right under
the player and then fill out the form that pops up. There's no apparent
reason code for Scam, so you'll need to pick Other and then explain.

Arnt, while the PFS guys are doing morally despicable things, they're not
(at least to my knowledge) violating copyright, nor the GPL. You REALLY
need to STFU until you know what you're talking about.
