Sequential page numbers on alternate pages

Hello, I have been asked to help out on a funny problem. A client is looking for a better way to publish bilingual files in which the source language is on the left pages and the target language is on the right. Page numbers are only on the left pages, but the sequence ignores the right

Now here's a strange thing. One of the bad character transpositions is the substitution of a '5' for an '='. If I create a new equation in the document that has the bad equations and insert an equality into it, I get a '? 5 ?' rather than a '? = ?' as expected. However, if I create a new blank
