[Framers] FrameMaker 11 in Win 10 Environment - Avenir 95 Black and Black Oblique fonts not rendering correctly
I am working in Structured FrameMaker 11, version 11.0/0/380 in a Windows 10 environment. We are creating new templates that include the Avenir font family. We are encountering issues with Avenir 95 Black and Black Oblique fonts not rendering correctly in FrameMaker. In the FrameMaker font menu, the following avenir fonts are available: [cid:image001.png@01D5E8CB.CC1570E0] It is my understanding that in a Windows environment, the Avenir 95 Black fonts is the equivalent of Avenir Medium when bold. The Avenir 95 Black Italics is the equivalent of Avenir 65 Medium when bold and italics. [cid:image002.png@01D5E8CB.CC1570E0] In FrameMaker, when I select Avenir LT Std 65 Medium, in the paragraph designer the only choice that I have available under 'Weight' is 'Bold'. I do not see an option of Regular or Bold. When this font is applied to a FrameMaker document, it does not appear to be a bolded version of Avenir LT Std 65 Medium: [cid:image003.png@01D5E8CB.CC1570E0] This issue is not occurring when using other applications. The font can be successfully applied in InDesign. Any ideas as to why this issue is occurring in FrameMaker? -- Unless notified to the contrary by the sender, the recipient should consider the contents of this message including any attachments to be confidential. Re: [Framers] SVG exported from Adobe Illustrator is all black
Hi Yves, I’ve been struggling with SVGs in the past. It turns out that Adobe Illustrator SVG doesn’t show with FM - not sure why but is has to do with extra code that Illustrator adds. We used a software named 'svgcleaner' to remove all unnecessary code and that helped. If you open the SVG in inkscape you can try to figure out what part of the code creates the problem. [Framers] SVG exported from Adobe Illustrator is all black when imported into Frame
Hi group I'm doing some tests with SVGs: 1. Create a line-art drawing in Illustrator and save it as Illustrator EPS. 2. Save the EPS file as SVG with subsetting (one version with all glyphs and one version with no glyphs). 3. Export the EPS file as SVG. When I view the SVGs in various browsers (Firefox and Chrome), I see that the exported SVG gives the best result: responsive and all fonts OK. The "Save As" SVGs are not OK: not responsive and incorrect font (and character spacing). So, the exported SVGs seem to work best but... when I import them into Frame 11 of 12, they are all black. Any ideas whether this can be fixed and how? Why is it that the weirdest things happen when you're up against a deadline? Now here's an odd thing. I hid black throughout the book. Some chapters have extraneous color definitions: I don't know whether that is a factor, but... Scanning the book with black turned off, every page was satisfactorily blank. However, in two chapters - actually one chapter and the index - all the text frames were still visible, although their contents weren't, as expected. All chapters shared the same template. I checked the color views and the definitions of 'black', and also copied the page layouts from a chapter with correctly invisible frames to the chapter with visible frames, but with no effect: the frames still stayed visible. As the frames are set to 'no pen' anyway, this shouldn't have any effect on the output, but I don't like unexplained phenomena! I'm also uneasy about the effect of the color view setting when applied to a whole book in which different chapters have different sets of color definitions: I'm not sure that FrameMaker always gets it right. And why would one page - only *one page* in the entire book - call for an extra brown spot plate just to print the crop marks, which are hard-coded to 100% C, 100% M, 100% Y, 100% K anyway (thus messing up the preflight plate count)? As this is a very old installation of FrameMaker, using the Apple LaserWriter 8 Postscript driver, I don't expect solutions, I'm just airing this as a curiosity. I daresay other, different fun color issues await me in FrameMaker for Windows ;-) -- Steve ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. Craig Johnson also suggested cutting a PDF and using Acrobat's preflighting to check for plate count. This also works, but is tricky to use here as, for some completely unfathomable reason, the Postscript driver I'm using (Mac Laserwriter 8) uses CMYK 'soft' black for crop marks - and even, on one occasion, a 'Brown' spot plate, for one page only. Well, now...let's see. First, I'm not starting from AI. Rather, it's an Interleaf-Quicksilver file, and exporting to EPS just isn't a happy experience. Re: thin black line on some images
I remember that thread you mentioned but I can't find it either... So what I'm remembering from the thread is that it had something to do with layers in the Photoshop file randomly appearing on the surface But I also don't remember the fix because it hadn't happened to me. What I'd try as a solution is either using an alternate format like PNG or flattening the PSD. An easy way to do this semi-automatically is with Dr. Brown's 1-2-3 script -- you can save your open PSD file in several formats and sizes in one pass. http://www.russellbrown.com/scripts.html Art Campbell art.campb...@gmail.com ... Brown's 1-2-3 script -- you can save your open PSD file in several formats and sizes in one pass. http://www.russellbrown.com/scripts.html Art Campbell ? ? ? ? ? ? ? art.campbell at gmail.com ? Hi Alison, I didn't receive any replies to this post (or I must have missed them), so I don't have a solution yet. RE: Black frame on OLE objects in PDF
Yves, I tried it in my system (Frame 8, Excel 2003) and it worked fine. Try it on another system and then compare your settings to see what's different between the systems. When I create a PDF, a black frame is placed on top of the OLE object in my PDF file. Is this a known bug? I've tested this with FrameMaker 7.2p158 + Acrobat Distiller 6.0 and FrameMaker 8, both with the same results. Black rectangle on OLE2 object in PDF
Hi Framers, I've got the following problem: I create a spreadsheet in Excel 2007, copy a couple of cells and paste them as OLE2 object in my Frame 7.2 file. I create a PDF and, lo and behold, a black rectangle appears on top of the OLE2 object. I'm using Acrobat 6 with Dov's recommended settings of my printer driver instance and Job Options. Okay, I've got Enfocus PitStop, so I can remove the rectangle, but, is this a known bug? -- Yves Barbion Documentation Architect Adobe-Certified FrameMaker Instructor Scripto bvba Asselsstraat 65 9031 Gent Belgium T: +32 494 12 01 89 F: +32 9 366 50 32 BTW (VAT) BE 0886.192.394 skype: yves.barbion ___ You are currently subscribed to Framers as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send list messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/options/framers/archive%40mail-archive.com Send administrative questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit http://www.frameusers.com/ for more resources and info.
