Technically I agree that this falls into the category of spam, but at
least I'd say that it's targeted spam. Compared to the 100+ offers to
extend my penis or make it perform like a Formula 1 race car that
receive every day (despite two filters), I find the occasional spam from
a document company pretty acceptable in this forum.

Besides, plenty of people promote products, conferences or services on
this list, myself among them. I suppose the poster could use something
in the subject line to indicate that it's an advertisement, but being on
the digest, I don't pay much attention to them anyway. Best just to
ignore it, I think.

I didn't receive it. Maybe my Eudora Junk filter took it out, but I didn't
notice that either. Are you sure it's from the list?

I don't mean to beat this to death, but I submitted my unsubscribe
command and am just now getting time to accept the confirmation (which I
will do after sending this message).

But just a couple quick things. On January 1st, I changed email
addresses, and I have been very careful about where I've posted that
address. I have now gotten exactly two spam messages so far this
year, and both are from this Indian Framemaker spammer. I responded
each time and told him to unsubscribe me, but he continues to spam me,
and many others on this list (who responded to me). If he is this
unethical, he'll probably sell the addresses.

I just started using Framemaker this year, and I have subscribed to
exactly two online resources: this list, and Adobe's online forum.
Adobe's forum hides email addresses, this list does not (nor should
it). The most likely way this guy got my email, then, is from this
list. I'm disappointed that the leadership of this list won't take
action against this guy, so I'm sorry to go.

Thanks to all for the excellent advice everyone gave me here, and sorry
to have caused problems for anyone.

Not to make you crazy, but there are bots who just try combinations of
letters and numbers and send out thousands of spams. Then they track the
ones that don't get a bounce to verify valid addresses. Your address is an
easy one to generate this way.

My fiance had an earthlink account just for backup - he never used it. 30
days after opening the account, he was getting about 100 spams a day. We
closed it.

Hey, if you've only gotten TWO spams this year, consider yourself way

This list is actually very clean in terms of SPAM.

I barely remember the message in question. I thought it was just a list

I've been on this list with the same address for more than a decade and (and
several other lists as well). I get perhaps a dozen to 18 spams a day at this
address and consider myself to be very fortunate that it's not more. At my
university account, which I've never used on any list of any kind, I get more
like 60 spams a day. If you've got two this year then you don't have a spam
problem. The information from the list is way too valuable to drop your
subscription for even 20 spams a day.
