Someone wanders in from time to time, but if you create a bug report in the
tracker and post the link here, others can vote on it.
If you want, I'll copy the link and post to the Adobe FrameMaker forum, too.

Thank you for the tip, Simon, but I'm not going to spend my time on this. I
guess/hope that Adobe is monitoring this list too and that they have the
time and the people to raise this issue as a bug. ;-)

Hello,
If you haven't done it already, I would advise raising this as a bug on
the Adobe tracking system:

Sean,
The binary data in a FrameMaker file identifies the version of
FrameMaker used to create the file. Each version of FrameMaker can open
files created in that version and earlier, but not files created in a
later version. In particular, FM 2019 cannot open files created in FM

The current version of FrameMaker is 16.03.979. It was released last
July/August and has had 3 updates so far.
Frame's update function is busticated, but that seems to be an issue with
Adobe's website. You have to download it from the trial page. As long as
you're subscribed, it should install

Shouldn't the translator return a client's project in the same release it

Optical margins are margins made to look visually straight. FrameMaker
makes them actually straight. So, if you have a line that begin with,
say, a quotation mark or an apostrophe, there is a bit more white space
at that point on the line, because the character is small. Your eye

Hi, Doug:
I don't have any running FM versions to test these ideas, but two possibly
helpful hoops might be:

modal-dialog limbo, but this might be a problem if FM's lock files prevent
opening the same file multiple times, (like

What I'd like to see in a new version of FM is a non-modal information
dialog that displays all of the characteristics of the currently selected
frame.
Currently I have to use separate information windows for anchor frames and
object properties, for example. They are non-modal, so that's good,
What is an optical margin?
Also, if you're looking for "old style numerals", are you talking about
where numbers like the 3 extending slightly below the baseline? That
appears to be a function of the font set as much as anything else. I'm
pretty sure I've seen fonts that provide that still.

FrameMaker is a specialist tool for people who want template-driven

FrameMaker as part of their DITA toolchain.
Adobe has no incentive to make it more competitive with InDesign as a

New versions of FrameMaker always seem to concentrate on adding features
for the structured community. I get it. That's the strenght of the
program. But the new features I'd like to see involve handling of

FM 2019 was released in August 2018, so if they stick to the ~18-month

My memory for dates is a sieve. Lynne is correct, and if the 18-month cycle
holds true, we should see 2020 sometime in March.

Text Structure Consulting,
Adobe seems to have stabilized on an 18-month release cycle. IIRC, 2019 was
released in January 2019, so expect something in June-ish. And if I didn't
recall correctly, add 18 months to whenever it actually was released.
