I am running FreeBSD 5.4. This is a new installation.
I am unable to get kde3 (meta port) installed. It hangs after almost a day
of compiling.
I have tried 'make clean' and 'make distclean' prior installing; all
without success. I have insured that the ports tree is up to date.

I am trying this OS on an old Compaq 5140 computer. Not exactly the latest
thing I know, but I want to learn how to use it before trying it on my
production machine.

I just updated to FreeBSD 5.3. While running 'portupgrade' the following
non fatal error message is displayed:
Vulnerability check disabled, dada base not found
I do not remember seeing this when I had version 5.2.1 installed.
Obviously I have forgotten to do something, but I cannot remember what
I am going to do a fresh install of FreBSD 5.3 this weekend on my
computer. Immediately after the installation I want to do a buildworld
and install a custom kernel.
My question is what special arguments should I use in the 'make.conf'
file for this project. Is it really necessary to change this

is no manual for them. I assume that there are no command line switches
either.

Actually, I find MS Outlook 2003 to be about the most complete email
program for professional use around. The main problem is that most users
are just to plain lazy to RTFM and therefore become confused and

I am not sure if this is the absolute correct way to do things; however,
so far I have not experienced any problems doing it this way. You could
skip step five if your system is on 24/7 or at least when the cron job
is scheduled to run.
You might want to throw a 'portsclean -CDDLPP' in
to work on the same
platform and perform as easily as Microsoft's operating system does. Once
they have reached that plateau, they can then proceed to improving on
their overall product features and usability.

Is it somehow possible that the Windows gateway only allows Internet Explorer to work?

I have previously posted in regards to the shutdown command not powering off
my computer. The command I used was:
shutdown -p now
The system would simple get to the point where it stated "Press Any Key to
Reboot". This problem did not exist under Windows. The system would po
a list of five modules, none of which is acpi.ko
I am planning on reformatting my computer and installing the latest version of BSD
when the next version comes out - hopefully the stable version. I would like to find
out why this is not working now though if possible.

I have version 5.2 RC#1 installed.
I have not been able to get the shutdown command to power down my computer. I used the
following command:
shutdown -p now
It simple gets to a point where it says press any key to restart. I never had any
problem doing a power off shutdown using Windows XP. Ca
