he desired port. A computer on a different port
will not see any of those packets. You have to use a hub or just a
non-learning bridge to get the packets forwarded to all ports. Those
are really hard to find anymore.

Thank you and rw for your replies.
The freebsd box is connected directly via ed1 to the dsl modem;
a crossover cable is used; the packets are clearly reaching the modem,
as it records them as received.
I've simplified ppp.conf to the following, essentially the ppp.conf.s
To answer my own question:
I had the mux type set wrong -- VC-based instead of LLC-based.
While the line comes up, the session is never opened because of the mux
mismatch.

I assumed that if I allowed a packet in,
it would be allowed out to its destination automatically.

Hello everyone,
With FreeBSD 6.2-Release, I added the option NO_OPENSSH=true in the
make.conf I use to build jails. But, I just rebuilded a jail in FreeBSD
7-Release and I realized at the mergemaster step of the update that
there were a lot of files related to OpenSSH that needed to be
those symlinks. So, the dependencies that rely
on perl and expect to find it in /usr/bin/perl can't find it and the
installation fails.
Did someone have any information on this issue?

I ran into a problem that I don't know how to diagnose.
I got a FreeBSD 6.0 box using an Adaptec SATA (fake)RAID 1210SA. Two 250
GB Maxtor hard drives are connected to this card, as a RAID1 mirror, and
the resulting filesystem is correctly mounted and NFS exported.

I am running FreeBSD 4.9 RELEASE running the standard ftpd. I can act as an
ftp client from the console OK, however when I try to ftp from a client PC
to the server running ftpd (which is running ipfw) the ftp server receives
the packet sent to port 21 and replies however it will not initiate a
en 'su' to switch to root. Is there any reason why I
should configure my system so that I can telnet in directly as root?

for Evolution 1.4.6_1 doesn't display my e-mails. It does recognize my mboxes, it does
display the treeview with my folders, however the panel that should be listing the
messages is empt

I'm having troubles configuring my mouse for the X server.
So, here's my story. I have a PIII 950MHz box with 128MB RAM. I have
Windows98 on it and right now I'm turning it to dual boot with FreeBSD
4.7-Release being the second o.s.
