The way this post has degenerated I think demonstrates exactly what the
original poster was trying to say. Somehow the replies became fixed on his
comment about use of language. I think what he was really trying to get at
is the lack of being able to support a point of view from a logically
constructed argument with reference back to the original question. If you
read the last post and the first post you could wonder if the two have
anything to do with each other. I believe he was saying that it is not too
hard to proof read a post and ask yourself does this follow from the
original topic. Logic and analysis should be able to be demonstrated
regardless of the language abilities of the poster.

My error, to have titled this thread "4th-Grade English", which did get
peoples' attention, but in the wrong way. THANK YOU for your insight,
in the same sense as Captain Armstrong [in your 1980s "Anzacs" series],
who initially addressed his all-volunteer platoon by saying, "You shall

both are related to the non-XMS-swapping command.com, so they are
useless (or rather 'nobody uses them so they are of no use').

Can we expect mSSH in the works any time soon? :) FWIW, the SSH protocol
is fairly open and there's nothing to stop anybody from writing new
SSH/SCP utility programs for DOS.

This is Nagy's SSH client for DOS. It is already included in the
FreeDOS software list:

[Freedos-user] Failure of Print-Screen (Screenshot) in Freedos Depending on How Full Screen was Entered

2011-10-27 Thread Robert J. Thompson
For your information (no longer a problem)

Assume I am on Ubuntu Desktop. Then use terminal command sudo dosemu. A
small (approx. 2" by 4") window appears. I usually go to full screen in
2 ways: (1) click in the box in upper right, corner; or (2). use the
CTRL-ALT-F key combination. The Printscreen key works (brings up my
Screenshot save file window) with method (1) and not with method (2).

When I exit Dosemu to Ubuntu having used Method (2). I have a 2' black
band down left side of screen, No band appears when I used Method (1).
I have a NEC Accusync LCD 223WXM monitor with a nVidia G72 (GeForce 7300
LE) graphics card. Seems like some monitor parameter is not being reset
properly when leaving dosemu?

My grandson Brian Thompson, solved this for me.

While this is not a FreeDOS problem (either it's an issue with DOSEmu,
or [more likely] the window environment in Ubuntu) I think several of
us are curious how this was solved when using method 2.

Hi!

Dosemu needs not and should not be run as root, it works fine in X :-)

That is interesting. On the other hand, as you already use xdosemu in
X anyway, you can simply use any Ubuntu screenshot tool of your choice.

By the way, you can select text in the DOS window with the mouse and
then use the middle mouse button to paste that text elsewhere... :-)

As said, it runs better without being root.

Still interesting to know how he did.

[Freedos-user] FreeDOS, Arachne, and VirtualBox

2011-10-27 Thread Louis Lev

Hello all,

I am a FreeDOS newbie, and hope to get Arachne up and running with my Ulrich
Hansen VBox image-- no luck so far! I am able to ping and wget with success,
but Arachne doesn't seem to recognize the dhcp. My Wattcp.cfg:

my_ip = dhcp
IP = dhcp
netmask = 255.255.255.0
gateway = 192.168.1.1
domain_list = mydomain.net

In my arachne.cfg, I have included in tcp/ip:

IP_Address = BOOTP
TCPconfig = lantcp.cfg

I have tried in the Arachne setup directing everything to my wattcp.cfg, no
luck. I have also tried the fixed address settings, not working either.

I have had trouble with my Avast Antivirus blocking things (Host, Win7, I had
to enable Internet Sharing)-- could this be a firewall issue?

Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated,

Louis
